Over the last 20
plus years I have tried to get quite a lot of projects going with
and for the muslim community, and every single one so far has turned
out to be a personal disaster. So now I've finally stopped expecting
anything of any muslim (well, actually I have said that before and
still been fooled again) and IZWAYZ will take as long as it takes me
to do it all by myself. But in the mid 1980s I was still full of
naive hope, and the Video Project was the first of those projects in
which I learned to survive lies and broken promises, and learned
how to recover from disillusionment and wasted effort (and if you
really want to know how these things work, I'll say something here).
But this being the first, it took the longest time before I
abandoned it, and I suppose if you consider IZWAYZ as its
new-technology metamorphosis, I haven't really abandoned it yet.
Certainly this first attempt at a curriculum/syllabus is the clear
progenitor of my IEC
curriculum which forms the skeleton of IZWAYZ, and in the Series
Breakdown and Pilot script we first meet Mulla
Malky, who appeared some years later on the BBC, and who if
IZWAYZ ever gets finished is demanding a major part. I guess my
computer is much like my father's garage - he never threw anything
away in case it came in handy later, and very occasionally something
did.
