Morning Thought - 15/10/95
When it comes to talking about the
truths of creation, the language of science can really only cope
with a tiny part of our life experience. The things that are most
important to us are more often dealt with in the language of faith,
a language which is clearly shared by religions that may well be in
conflict in many other areas. Muslims, Christians and Jews share an
almost identical language to discuss the meaning of life, which
makes it strange that one of our shared understandings is often
treated as a bit of a joke.
In a
couple of months, angels of one sort or another will be hanging from
our lamposts and perched on top of Christmas trees, yet how many
people really believe in their existence. More people are likely to
admit to believing in UFO's and aliens. Scientists are happier
talking about sub-atomic particles, even when they're just
mathematical predictions. But angels are the means by which God
preserves a record of our existence in time. We may come and go in a
moment, but the angels are what link our thoughts and actions with
eternity.
