Wednesday

Loosely themed around the days of the week on which they were to be broadcast this series really used the Qur'an to illustrate what I was saying, rather than what I was saying being more of a commentary on the Qur'an.

Prayer for the Day - 09/04/01

There are times when it all seems so effortless. It’s just as though for a short time we are coasting through life. Everything seems to work like clockwork, almost without effort. Then is a time to remember how we are blessed.

But humankind is cursed by arrogance, and so we easily forget that we have had the answer to our prayers. That’s the way we are. For some reason it’s much easier to ask for help when things are going badly than to say thank-you when they are going well.

But then is a time to see God’s glory in the heavens and the earth.

Qur’an says “Have you not seen how whatsoever is in the heavens and in the earth glorifies God, just as with the birds spreading their wings? Each – God knows its prayer and its glorification; and knows the things they do. To God belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and to God is the homecoming.”

In times of ease, we can so easily see God’s Mercy as the signs of the Creator in the Creation that surrounds us – in the sun, moon and stars, the variety of our tongues and colours, and the rain falling on a dead land to give it life. “God turns about the day and the night; surely in that is a lesson for those who have eyes.”

And the signs of God in the universe around us reflect back to us the book of our lives for us to read. Qur’an says, “We shall show them Our signs in the horizons and in themselves, till it is clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not enough for your Lord to be witness over everything? … Does God not encompass everything?”

All-Merciful God, give us the humility to recognise your signs in the lives that we are living. Help us to see you in the good of what affects us, even as we face the consequences of our choices and our actions. Amen.
