Time Out - 27/04/93
We
aren't forced to give praise or thanks to God, or even to believe,
and when things are comfortable on the surface it's all too easy to
forget what we know deep inside.
Fear
can jog the memory, and while it lasts we promise to be thankful for
ever if only we survive. But then when our crisis is over, we mostly
laugh off the experience as a momentary weakness, and decide to
postpone our reconciliation with our Maker after all.
God
knows how weak we are, however, it is only our arrogance that keeps
us from admitting the extent of our confusion and loneliness. Pride
keeps us from reaching out to the only One Who can help.
Yet
God says "I am as My servant thinks I am, and I am with him
when he mentions Me. And if he draws near to Me a hand's span, I
draw near to him an arm's length; and if he draws near to Me an
arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes
to Me walking, I go to him at speed."
