a release
by God
and Hu's Messenger
to those who
give God partners
from the treaty
that you made
travel freely in the land
for four months
and know that
you cannot stop
the will of God
and that God will shame
those who are
ungrateful
an announcement
from God
and Hu's Messenger
to humankind
on the day of the great Hajj
God owes nothing
to those who worship idols
nor does Hu's Messenger
so if you are sorry
that will be better for you
but if you turn your backs
know that you cannot stop
the will of God
and give news to those
who are ungrateful
of a painful punishment
except those
idol worshippers
with whom
you made a treaty
and they did not break it
or support anyone
against you
honour your treaty with them
until its time runs out
surely God loves
those who are
Mindful of God
then
when the sacred months
are over
kill those who set up
partners with God
wherever you find them
and seize them
and lay siege to them
and lie in wait for them
in every place of ambush
but if they are sorry
and make the Sala
and pay the Zaka
then let them go on their way
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
and if any of
the idol worshippers
ask for protection from you
then grant them protection
until they hear
the Words of God
then take them to
a place that is safe
that is because
they are a people
who do not know
how could those
who worship idols
have a treaty with God
and Hu's Messenger?
apart from those
with whom you made
a treaty at the Holy Mosque
so as long as they
are straight with you
be straight with them
surely God loves
those who are
Mindful of God
if they get the better of you
they will not honour
any family ties
or treaties
they say things to please you
with their mouths
but in their hearts
they are against you
and most of them
are wicked
they have sold
the Signs of God
for a small price
and have tried
to keep others
from Hu's Way
truly
what they have been doing
is very wrong
they do not honour
any family tie
or treaty
with those
who believe
they are the ones
who go beyond the limits
but if they are sorry
and make Sala
and pay Zaka
then they are your family
sharing your Way of Life
and We make the Signs clear
for people who know
but if they
break their promises
after making a treaty
and throw insults
at your Way of Life
then fight those who lead
those who are ungrateful
their promises mean nothing
hopefully they will
stop what they are doing
will you not fight a people
who broke their treaties
and wanted to drive away
the Messenger
and who attacked you first?
are you afraid of them?
you would do better
to be afraid of God
if you are believers
fight them
and God will punish them
at your hands
and shame them
and Hu will help you
against them
and bring healing
to the breast
of those people who believe
and Hu will take away
the anger in their hearts
and God turns in forgiveness
towards whoever Hu wills
God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
or did you suppose
you would be left in peace
and that God does not know
which of you have struggled
and taken no friends
apart from God
and Hu's Messenger
and those who believe?
God is aware of what you do
it is not for those
who worship idols
to stay in
God's places of worship
witnessing
against themselves
that they do not believe
those are people
whose actions
will come to nothing
and they will live
in the Fire
forever
the only ones that
should stay in
God's places of worship
are those who believe
in God and the Last Day
and make the Sala
and pay the Zaka
and fear no-one
only God
it may be that those
will be among the guided
do you think that
giving water to pilgrims
and staying in
the Holy Mosque
are the same as believing
in God and the Last Day
and struggle
in the Way of God?
they are not the same
in the sight of God
and God does not guide
those who do wrong
those who believe
and have made Hijra
and have struggled
in the Way of God
with what they have
and of themselves
are higher in rank with God
those are
the ones who triumph
their Liege gives them
good news
of mercy from Hu
and good pleasure
for them are waiting
Gardens
of everlasting delight
to live in them
forever and ever
surely with God
is a mighty reward
you who believe
do not take
your parents and siblings
as friends
if they would rather
be ungrateful
than believe
whoever takes them
for friends
they are the ones
who do wrong
say
"If your parents
or children or siblings
or marriage partners
or clan
or wealth
that you have gained
or trade
you fear you may lose
or places you live
that you love
if these are
more important to you
than God
and Hu's Messenger
and struggle in Hu's Way
then wait until
God brings Hu's punishment
God does not guide
the wicked"
God has already helped you
on many fields of battle
and on the day of Hunain
when your great numbers
pleased you
but did not help you
in any way
and the earth
wide as it is
seemed narrow to you
and you turned your backs
retreating
then God sent down
peace of mind
on Hu's Messenger
and on the believers
and Hu sent down
armies you could not see
and Hu punished
those who were
ungrateful
and that is the reward
of those who are
ungrateful
then after that
God turns in forgiveness
towards whoever Hu wills
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
you who believe
those who worship idols
are not clean
so do not let them
come near the Holy Mosque
after this year
if you are afraid of being poor
God will surely make you rich
out of Hu's bounty
if Hu wills
God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
fight those who have been
given the Book
but do not believe
in God and the Last Day
and who do not forbid
what God
and Hu's Messenger
have forbidden
those who do not
take as their way of life
the Way of Life of truth
until they pay the Jizya tax
with their own hands
and agree to submit to you
the Jews say
"Ezra is the Son of God"
the Christians say
"The Messiah
is the Son of God"
that is what their mouths say
copying what was said
by those who were ungrateful
before them
God reject them
how misled they are
they have taken
their rabbis and their monks
as lords apart from God
and the Messiah
Mary's son
and they were told to serve
One God
there is no god
apart from Hu
glory be to Hu
far above
whatever
they partner
with Hu
they want
to put God's light out
with their mouths
but God refuses
only perfecting Hu's light
even though
those who are ungrateful
do not like it
it is Hu has sent
Hu's Messenger
with the guide
and the Way of Life of truth
that Hu may lift it up
above every other way of life
even though
the idol worshippers
do not like it
you who believe
many rabbis and monks
use up
the property of the people
under false pretences
and try to keep people
from God's Way
but as for those
who hoard up gold and silver
and do not spend it
in the Way of God
give them the good news
of a painful punishment
on the day it shall be heated
in the fire of Hell
and their foreheads
and their sides
and their backs
will be branded with it
"This is the thing
you have treasured up
for yourselves
so now taste
what you were treasuring"
there have been
twelve months with God
in the Book of God
from the day that
Hu created
the heavens and earth
four of them are holy
that is the right Way of Life
so do not do wrong
to each other
during them
and fight those
who give partners to God
at any time
if they start a fight with you
and know that God
is with those who are
Mindful of God
putting off a holy month
makes you more ungrateful
it is a way in which
those who are ungrateful
take the wrong way
they will allow things in it
one year
and make it holy in the next
to make it add up
to the number
God has made holy
and that way make ungodly
what God has made holy
their bad deeds
are made to seem
pleasing to them
and God does not guide
those who are ungrateful
you who believe
what is wrong with you
that when it is said to you
"Go out in the Way of God"
that you sink down
heavily
to the ground?
are you happy
with this present life
rather than
the world to come?
but the enjoyment of
this present life
is small
compared to
the world to come
if you do not go out
Hu will punish you
with a painful punishment
and put another people
in your place
and you will not
hurt Hu at all
for God is
powerful over everything
yet if you do not help him
God has helped him already
when those who were
ungrateful
drove him out
the second of two
when the two
were in the cave
when he said
to his companion
"Do not be sad
surely God is with us"
then God sent down on him
peace of mind from Hu
and made him strong
with armies you did not see
and Hu made the word
of those who were
ungrateful
the very lowest
and God's word
is the very highest
God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
so go out
with light or heavy armour
struggle in God's Way
with your wealth
and in yourselves
that is better for you
if you only knew
if it had been a case of
easy gains
and a short journey
they would have
followed you
but the distance
was too much for them
still they swear by God
"Had we been able
we would have
gone out
with you"
and they
destroy themselves
God knows
they are truly liars
God forgive you
why did you
excuse them
until it was clear to you
which of them
spoke the truth
and until you knew
the liars?
those who believe
in God and the Last Day
do not ask you
to excuse them
from the struggle
with their wealth
and of themselves
and God knows
those who are
Mindful of God
they only ask
to be excused
who do not believe
in God and the Last Day
those whose hearts
are filled with doubt
and in their doubt
they go this way
and that
if they had wanted
to go out
they would have
prepared for it
but God did not want them
to go out
so Hu held them back
and they were told
"You
stay behind
with those who
stay bahind"
if they had gone out
mixed among you
they would only
have made your troubles
worse
running to and fro
amongst you
trying to stir up
trouble between you
and some of you
would listen to them
and God knows
those who do wrong
they tried to
stir up trouble
before
and turned things
upside down
for you
until the truth came
and God's will triumphed
even though
they did not like it
there are some of them
who say
"Give me permission to stay
do not let me be tempted"
have they not
already been tempted
and have fallen
and surely
Hell
surrounds
those who are
ungrateful
if good things
happen to you
it makes them angry
but if hard times
come to you
they say
"We prepared for this"
and turn away
feeling glad
say
"Nothing comes to us
except what God
has written for us
Hu is our Protector
in God
let those who believe
put all their trust"
say
"Are you waiting for
anything
to come to us
apart from
the two rewards
most fair?
we are waiting
in your case too
for God to come to you
with punishment
from Hu
from our hands
so wait
we are waiting with you"
say
"Giving it freely
or by force
it will not be
accepted
from you
truly
you are
wicked people"
and the only thing
that keeps their offers
from being accepted
from them
is that
they do not believe
in God
and Hu's Messenger
and they do not
make the Sala
except lazily
and they do not like
to part with anything
so do not let
their wealth
or their children
impress you
God only wants
to punish them
with what they have
in the present life
and that
their souls leave
while they are ungrateful
they swear by God
that they belong with you
but they are not of you
they are a people
who are afraid
if they could find
a shelter
or some caverns
or any place to creep into
they would turn their backs
and run away to it
some of them
find fault with you
with regard to
charity
if they are given a share
they are pleased
but if they get none
they get angry
if only they were happy
with what
God and Hu's Messenger
have brought them
saying
"God is enough for us
God will give to us
from Hu's bounty
as will Hu's Messenger
to God we turn
for forgiveness"
charity is for
the poor and needy
for those who work
collecting it
for those whose hearts
need winning over
for the freeing of slaves
for those in debt
for spending in God's Way
and for the traveller
this is a duty to God
God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
and some of them
hurt the Newsbringer
saying
"He just listens
without question"
say
"He listens
to what is good for you
he believes in God
and believes in
those who believe
and is a mercy
to those among you
who believe"
those who hurt
God's Messenger
for them is waiting
a painful punishment
they swear by God to you
to please you
but it would be better
for them to please God
and Hu's Messenger
if they believed
do they not know
that whoever is against
God and Hu's Messenger
for them is waiting
the fire of Hell
to live in it forever?
that is the great disgrace
those who pretend
are afraid
in case a Sura
is sent down against them
telling you what is
in their hearts
say
"Keep on making fun of us
God will bring out
what you are afraid of"
and if you question them
then surely they will say
"We were only
joking and playing"
say
"Were you making fun
of God and Hu's Signs
and Hu's Messenger?"
make no excuses
you have returned to
being ungrateful
after you have
once believed
if We forgive
one group of you
We will punish
another group
because they did
bad deeds
those who pretend
the men and women
are like one another
they urge what is wrong
and forbid what is right
and are tight fisted
they have forgotten God
and Hu has forgotten them
those who pretend
are the wicked
God has promised
those who pretend
men and women
and those who are
ungrateful
the fire of Hell
to live in forever
that is enough for them
God has rejected them
and there is waiting for them
an everlasting punishment
like those before you
who had
more strength than you
and more wealth
and children
they enjoyed their share
in this life
so enjoy your share
as those before you
enjoyed their share
you have joked
as they have joked
their deeds
have come to nothing
in this world
and in the world to come
they are the losers
has the news
not come to you
of those who were
before you
the people of Noah
Ad and Thamood
the people of Abraham
the companions of Midian
and the ruined cities?
their Messengers
came to them
with the Clear Signs
God would not wrong them
but they
wronged themselves
and those who believe
men and women
are friends of each other
they urge what is right
and forbid what is wrong
they make the Sala
and pay the Zaka
and they obey God
and Hu's Messenger
God will have mercy on them
God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
God has promised
those who believe
men and women
gardens
beneath which rivers flow
to live there forever
and fine places to live
in the Gardens of Eden
and more
pleasing God
that is the great victory
O Newsbringer
struggle with those
who are ungrateful
and those who pretend
and be hard on them
their shelter is Hell
a dreadful place
to come home to
they swear by God
that they said nothing
but they said the words
that showed they were
ungrateful
and they were ungrateful
after they had once been
surrendered
they intended to do
what they could not achieve
and being spiteful
was the only way
they could reply
when God
and Hu's Messenger
had given them riches
from Hu's bounty
so if they are sorry
it will be better for them
if they turn away
God will punish them
with a painful punishment
in this world and the next
on earth they have
no protector
and no helper
and some of them
have made a promise
to God
"If Hu gives us
of Hu's bounty
we will give charity
and be of those who
do good"
but when Hu gave them
of Hu's bounty
they were mean with it
and turned away
so in the end Hu put
pretending
into their hearts
until the day they meet Hu
because they failed to keep
their promises to Hu
and they were liars
did they not know
that God knows their secret
and what they plan together
and that God knows
what cannot be seen?
as for those who find fault
with those who believe
who freely give charity
and with those who
can find nothing to give
except their efforts
and make fun of them
God makes fun of them
and waiting for them
is a painful punishment
ask forgiveness for them
or do not
ask forgiveness for them
even if you asked
forgiveness for them
seventy times
God will not forgive them
because they were
ungrateful
to God and Hu's Messenger
God does not guide
the ones who act wickedly
those who were left behind
were glad to wait
behind
the Messenger of God
and did not want to struggle
with their wealth
and with themselves
in God's Way
they said
"Do not go out in the heat"
say
"Hell's fire is hotter"
if they only understood
so let them laugh little
and weep much
as repayment
for what
they have been earning
so if God brings back
a group of them
and they ask your permission
to go out with you
say
"You will never
go out with me
and you will not fight
any enemy with me
you were happy
to wait behind
the first time
so now stay with those
who are left behind"
and never pray
over any of them
when they are dead
or stand over their graves
truly they were ungrateful
to God and Hu's Messenger
and died
while they acted wickedly
and do not let
their wealth and children
impress you
God only wants
to punish them by them
in this present world
and their souls to leave them
while they are ungrateful
and when a Sura
is sent down
saying
"Believe in God
and struggle alongside
Hu's Messenger"
the rich ones among them
ask your permission
saying
"Let us be with those
who stay behind"
they are pleased to be
with those left behind
and a seal has been put
on their hearts
so they do not understand
but the Messenger
and with him
those who believe
have struggled
with their wealth
and of themselves
and for them
there is waiting
all good things
they are
those who are successful
God has made
ready for them
gardens
beneath which
rivers flow
to live there forever
that is the mighty victory
and the desert arabs came
with their excuses
asking for permission to stay
and those who lied
to God and Hu's Messenger
waited behind
and there will come
to those amongst them
who are ungrateful
a painful punishment
there is no fault
in the weak and the sick
and those who have
nothing to give
if they are true
to God and Hu's Messenger
there is no way against
those who do good
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
nor against those who
when they came to you
for you to provide them
with mounts
you said
"I cannot find anything
on which to mount you"
and they turned away
their eyes overflowing
with tears of sadness
because they had
nothing to give
the only ones open to blame
are those who ask you
to excuse them
even though they are rich
they are happy to be with
those left behind
God has put
a seal on their hearts
and they do not know
they will make
excuses to you
when you
come back to them
say
"Do not excuse yourselves
we will not believe you
God has already
told us about you
God will surely
see what you do
as will Hu's Messenger
then you will be taken
back to Hu
the Knower of
the unseen and the visible
and Hu will tell you
what you did"
they will swear by God to you
when you
come back to them
in order to make you
leave them alone
so turn away from them
for they are filth
and their shelter is Hell
a reward for
what they have been earning
they will swear to you
to make you
pleased with them
but even if
you are pleased with them
God will not be pleased
with the wicked
the desert arabs
are more stubborn
when being ungrateful
and pretending
and less likely
to know the limits
of what God has sent down
on Hu's Messenger
and God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
some of the desert arabs
see what they give you
as a fine they have to pay
and wait for
your luck
to turn against you
but it will turn
against them
God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
but some of the desert arabs
believe in God
and the Last Day
and see what they give
as bringing them
closer to God
and the prayers of
the Messenger
they will indeed
bring them closer
and God will let them
enter into Hu's mercy
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
and those who led
those who made Hijra
and those who helped them
and those who followed them
in doing good
God is pleased with them
and they are
pleased with Hu
and Hu has made
ready for them
gardens
beneath which
rivers flow
to live there forever
and ever
that is the mighty victory
and some of
the desert arabs
who live around you
are among those
who pretend
and some of
the people of the city
are stubborn
in their pretending
you do not know them
but We know them
and We will punish them
twice
then they will be returned
to a mighty punishment
and others have admitted
their bad deeds
they have mixed
good deeds
with bad ones
it may be that God
will turn towards them
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
take charity
from their wealth
to purify it
and make them clean
and pray for them
prayers are
a comfort for them
God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
do they not know
that it is God
Hu accepts
prayers for forgiveness
from Hu's servants
and takes
what is freely given
in charity
God is
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Ever-Merciful
say
"Act
and God will surely see
your actions
as will the Messenger
and those who believe
and you will be
returned to Hu
the Knower of
the unseen and the visible
and Hu will tell you
what you were doing"
and there are others
still waiting
for God's command
whether Hu punishes them
or turns to them
with forgiveness
God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
as for those who have
set up a mosque
trying to cause harm
and make you ungrateful
and trying to split up
those who believe
and as a meeting place
for those who fought
against God
and Hu's Messenger
before
they will swear
they wanted
only what was good
and God is witness
they are truly liars
never stand in it
a mosque that was
based upon
being
Mindful of God
from the first day
has a greater right
for you
to stand in it
in it are those
who love to
keep themselves
clean
and God loves
those who
keep themselves
clean
who is better
someone who has based
their building
on being
Mindful of God
and wanting
Hu's good pleasure
or someone who has based
their building
on the edge of
a crumbling bank
that has tumbled
with them
into
the fire of Hell
and God does not guide
those who do wrong
the buildings
they have built
will not stop
being a doubt
in their hearts
unless it happen
that their hearts
are cut to pieces
God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
God has bought
from the believers
what they own
and who they are
in exchange for
the gift of Paradise
they fight
in the Way of God
they kill
and are killed
it is
a promise
made by God
in the Torah
and the Gospel
and the Reading
and who
fulfils a promise
more truly
than God?
so enjoy
the agreement
you have made with Hu
that is
the mighty victory
those who turn
asking forgiveness
those who serve
those who give praise
those who journey
those who bow
those who make Sajda
those who urge
what is right
and forbid
what is wrong
those who keep
within God's limits
give good news
to those who believe
it is not for the Newsbringer
and those who believe
to beg pardon
for those who
worship idols
even if they are
close family
after it has
become clear
to them
that they will be
the companions of Hellfire
Abraham
only begged
forgiveness for his father
because of a promise
he had made to him
and when it was clear
that he was
an enemy of God
he washed his hands of him
Abraham was merciful
and kind
God would never
lead a people
to take the wrong way
after Hu has guided them
until Hu
makes clear to them
how they should be
Mindful of God
surely God knows
everything
to God belongs
the command
of the heavens
and of the earth
Hu gives life
and makes to die
and apart from God
you have
no protector
no helper
God has turned
towards the Newsbringer
and those who made Hijra
and those who helped
who followed him
in the hour of difficulty
after the hearts
of some of them
almost swerved aside
then Hu turned
towards them
surely Hu is
Forgiving-by-Nature
Ever-Merciful
and as for the three
who were left behind
until when the earth
became narrow
for them
for all its width
and their selves
became narrow
for them
and they thought that
there was no shelter
from God
except in Hu
then Hu turned
towards them
so they could also
turn
surely God is
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Ever-Merciful
you who believe
be Mindful of God
and be with
those who
tell the truth
it is not for
the people of the city
and the desert arabs
who live around them
to stay behind
God's Messenger
and to prefer
their lives
to his
that is because
they are not
thirsty
or tired
or hungry
in the Way of God
nor will they take
a single step
to anger
those who are
ungrateful
nor will they take
any gain from an enemy
unless a good action
is written down
to pay for it
God does not waste
the wages
of those who do good
they do not spend
any amount
small or great
nor do they cross any valley
without it being written
in their account
so God can
repay them for
the best
of what they did
those who believe
do not have to go out
all together
but why not let
a party with some from
every group of them
go out
to gain knowledge
of the Way of Life
and to warn their people
when they go back to them
so hopefully
they might
beware?
you who believe
fight those who are
ungrateful
who are near to you
and let them find you
standing firm
and know that
God is with
those who are
Mindful of God
whenever a Sura
is sent down to you
some of them say
"Which of you
has had your belief
strengthened by this?"
as for those who believe
it has increased
their belief
and they are
full of joy
but as for those
with sickness
in their hearts
it has increased
their filth
with more filth
and they have died
while they were
ungrateful
do they not see
that they are tested
every year
once or twice?
but still they are not sorry
and do not remember
and whenever a Sura
is sent down
they look at one another
"Is anyone watching you?"
then they turn away
God has
turned away their hearts
because they are a people
who do not understand
now there has come to you
a Messenger
from among yourselves
it hurts him to see you suffer
he is worried for you
forgiving by nature
to those who believe
merciful
so if they turn their backs
say
"God is enough for me
there is no god
if not Hu
in Hu
I have put my trust
Hu is the Liege
of the Mighty Throne"
