the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
We sent Noah
to his people
saying
"Warn your people
before they are hit by
a painful punishment"
he said
"My people
I am a clear warner to you"
saying
"Serve God
and be Mindful of God
and obey me
and Hu will forgive you
what you have done wrong
and spare you
until a decided time
God's time
when it comes
cannot be delayed
if you only knew"
he said
"My Liege
I have called my people
by night and by day
but the more I call them
the more they run away
and whenever I called them
so You could forgive them
they put their fingers
in their ears
wrapped themselves
in their clothes
and continued
to grow proud
then I called them openly
then I spoke to them
in public
and I spoke to them
in secret
and I said
'Ask for forgiveness
from your Liege
surely Hu is always
Ever-Forgiving
and Hu will make heaven
send down the rain you need
and make you stronger
with wealth and children
and will give you gardens
and will give you rivers
what is your problem
that you do not hope for
honour with God
when Hu created you
in stages?
have you not seen
how God created
seven heavens
one upon another
and put the moon there
for a light
and the sun for a lamp?
and God made you
grow from the earth
and Hu shall return you to it
and bring you out again
and God has laid out
the earth for you
as a carpet
so you may thread paths
through its wide spaces'"
Noah said
"My Liege
they have disobeyed me
and followed those
whose wealth and children
only increase their loss
they have hatched a plot
and have said
'Do not leave your gods
do not leave Wadd
nor Suwa nor Yaghuth
nor Yauq nor Nasr'
they have led many astray
and You only increase
those who do evil
in how they go astray"
and because of
the wrong they did
they were drowned
and shown into the Fire
and they did not find
apart from God
anyone to help them
and Noah said
"My Liege
do not leave on the earth
even one of those who are
ungrateful
surely if You leave them
they will lead astray
your servants
and their children
will only do evil
and be ungrateful
my Liege
forgive me
and my parents
and all who come
into my house
who believe
and men who believe
and women who believe
and do not increase
those who do evil
in anything except ruin"
