In 2008 it will be
20 years since the publication of Salman Rushdie's 'The Satanic
Verses', and I suspect that it is inevitable that there will be some
sort of media recollection of the events that followed. I'll say
more about my take on what happened here, but I thought it might be
as well to include this piece written in 1990 for the sake of some
kind of historical completeness (truth in the matter having flown
out of the window very early on in the proceedings) and for the
information of anyone who is digging around trying to make sense of
what happened.
