Good choice

From here we can discover the ways that people learn

about the world and themselves.

When humans come into the world they begin a new kind of life in which they have bodies,

but perhaps even more important, a life in which they are given minds,

ways of understanding themselves and what is around them.

And some ways of understanding they are given before their arrival,

and some things they learn for themselves,

from their senses,

seeing,hearing, touching,tasting, smelling,

or they learn just by thinking,

but most things they learn from other people,

who have had to learn things before them.

Humans learn ways of sharing what they have learned in different kinds of language,

not just words, but numbers, and other ways of expressing what they are thinking.

And they learn about the world that surrounds them,

and the world that is inside them,

and they learn how those worlds work,

and they learn who they are,

and why things are the way they are.

And they try to learn what their lives are for,

and the best way for them to live,

and how to use their ability to choose between one thing and another.

What is so special about the words that we use?

How do numbers work in a different way to words?

How can we understand the world around us?

What kinds of language don't need words or numbers?

What are the important things for us to learn about ourselves?
