Laws

You know, when humans live together they have to agree on what is good and what is bad,

and decide what is right and wrong at every moment of their lives,

But some Good and Bad Actions are thought to be so important

that everyone must agree to behave in a way that has been agreed to be the limits of their behaviour.

These are the rules as to what must and must not be done,

the Laws that apply to the way everyone behaves.

In the Muslim Way of Life, the Laws that apply to the community have an Arabic name,

Shari'ah,

which means the Main Road,

like the road to water in a desert,

a road people travel together

because they know that it leads to a place where they all want to go.

In the Deen of Islam, the Shari'ah says

what is important for Muslims living in a society,

to know what is good and what is bad,

to know the limits to how we behave,

and gives rules as to what we must do and what we mustn't do.

But the number of things that are not allowed are very few,

and the things that are allowed are many.

So as well as setting rules, the Shari'ah also guides us

as to what might not be liked in all the rest of what is possible for us to do.
