Being
Angry

You know,

it seems strange that humans have Vices as part of their nature

and have to spend so much time and effort controlling them,

when they could have been made without all these Blameworthy Ways in the first place.

But sometimes the Ways of Blame can have their uses.

It seems that all of them are not all bad.

Well, let's take a look at just one of them.

How about Anger?

Everyone knows that anger can make you very unpopular.

It's very hard to make friends with someone who is angry with you.

And Anger can make humans do all sorts of things

that they later wish that they hadn't.

It can make them scream and shout until their voices get sore,

or make them have tantrums and smash up all their favourite things,

or say things to hurt their friends.

No one likes it when other people get like that,

and no one really wants to get like that themselves.

But they do!

So why would anyone choose to behave that way.

It's because of what they feel,

that thing called Anger, that is so strong that it takes people over,

and more or less makes them go mad.

That is why it has to be kept under control.

But people need their Anger. It was not given to them for no reason.

Anger helps to take away fear.

Anger can make a weak person strong of heart

to stand up against Evil and Injustice,

can give them the strength to say what they think is right,

the courage to stand up for their understanding

of what is good and what is bad,

what is true and what is not.

What we believe is true is at the centre of who we are,

and in the end no human can force another to believe something is true or not,

though they can do their best to lead them to good, or to lead them astray.

And to be able to say what you think is true

is perhaps the most important freedom that we have.

And to be free to say that you believe in the One God

is so important that Muslims have been prepared to die for it.

But if everyone is free to say what they think,

there is going to be a lot of confusion and argument,

and with all that anger around we need to learn ways to stop ourselves from fighting?

That's why we need to learn control.
