that is the Book
in it is no doubt
a guide
to those
Mindful of God
who believe
in what
can not be seen
and make Sala
and spend from what
We have provided
for them
who believe
in what
is sent down
to you
and what
was sent down
before you
and are sure of
the Afterlife
they are shown the Way
by their Liege
those are the ones
who do well
as for the ungrateful
it is the same to them
whether you warned them
or warned them not
they do not believe
God
has closed
their hearts
and hearing
and their eyes are covered
and waiting
for them
is great punishment
and there are people
who say
"We believe in God
and the Last Day"
but they do not
believe
they would try
to trick God
and those who believe
but they only
fool themselves
and they do not know
in their hearts
is a disease
and God has made
their disease grow
and waiting for them
is a painful punishment
for calling truth lies
when it is said to them
"Do not spread sickness
in the land"
they say
"We are the ones
that put things right"
truly
they are
the spreaders of sickness
but they do not know
when
it is said to them
"Believe
like the people believe"
they say
"Shall we believe
like fools believe?"
it is they
who are foolish
but they do not know
when they meet
those who believe
they say
"We believe"
but when they go
alone
to their Satans
they say
"We are with you
we were only
making fun"
God
will make fun
of them
and will lead them on
wandering
blindly
rude and angry
those are the ones
who have paid for
the wrong way
with the price of
a good guide
so their trade
has not done them
any good
and they are not
guided
they are like
a person
who lit a fire
and when it shone
all around
God took away
their light
and left them
in the dark
no way to see
they will not hear
or speak or see
so they will not
be able to
return
or they are like
a storm cloud
in the sky
full of darkness
thunder and lightning
they put their fingers
in their ears
to keep out the thunder
afraid of death
and God
is on all sides
of those who are
ungrateful
the lightning almost
snatches away
their sight
when it gives them
light
they walk in it
and when the dark
is over them
they stand still
and if God wished
God could have
taken away
their hearing
and their sight
truly God is
powerful
over everything
humankind
serve your Liege
Hu made you
and those that
were before you
so that hopefully
you will be
Mindful of God
Hu gave you
the earth
for a couch
and heaven
for a roof above
and sent down
out of heaven
water
with which
God made fruits grow
to provide for you
so do not set up
equals to God
knowingly
and if you are not
sure about what
We have sent down
on Our servant
then bring
a Sura like it
and call your witnesses
other than God
if you tell the truth
and if you do not
and you will not
then be afraid
of the Fire
which burns
people and stones
made ready
for the ungrateful
give good news
to those who believe
and do what is good
that for them
there will be gardens
beneath which rivers flow
when they are given
fruits from it
they will say
"This is what
we were provided
before"
they shall be given
what seems
exactly the same
and there shall be
pure partners
for them
and there
they shall live
forever
God is not ashamed
to give an example
as small as a gnat
or bigger
and as for those who believe
they know it is the truth
from their Liege
but as for those
who are ungrateful
they say
"What did God want
with this example?"
and by it
Hu causes many
to take the wrong way
and guides many by it
and in that way
Hu leads no-one
to take the wrong way
except the wicked
like those who break
their agreement with God
after it has been promised
and cut apart
what God has ordered
to be joined
and those who
spread sickness
in the land
they shall be
the losers
how is it
you are ungrateful
to God
when you were dead
and Hu
gave you life
then Hu
shall make you dead
then Hu
shall give you life
then to Hu
you shall be returned
it was Hu
that made for you
all that is
in and on the earth
then took care of heaven
then shaped them into
seven heavens
and Hu knows
everything
and when your Liege
said to the Angels
"I am putting on earth
someone to take care of it
for Me"
they said
"Will You put someone there
who will spread sickness
and spill blood
while we sing Your praise
and call You Holy?"
Hu said
"I surely know
what you know not"
and Hu
taught Adam
the Names
all of them
then Hu
showed them
to the Angels
and said
"Now tell Me
the Names of these
if you speak truth"
they said
"Glory be to You
we know nothing
except what
You have taught us
surely You are
the All-Knowing
the All-Wise"
Hu said
"Adam
tell them their Names"
and when he had
told them their Names
Hu said
"Did I not tell you
I know the things
you cannot see
in the heavens
and in the earth?"
and I know
the things you show
and what
you were hiding
and when We said
to the Angels
"Bow yourselves
to Adam"
they bowed themselves
except Iblis
it refused
and swelled with pride
and so it was one of
the ungrateful
and We said
"Adam
live with your partner
in the Garden
and eat from it
freely
anywhere you wish
but stay away from
this tree
or you will be
with the ones
who are not just"
then Satan
made them slip
away from there
and brought them out
of where they were in
and We said
"Get you all down
each of you
an enemy
to each
and in the earth
a journey shall be yours
and enjoyment
for a while"
after that Adam heard
Words from his Liege
and Hu turned to him
in forgiveness
truly Hu is
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Ever-Merciful
We said
"Get you down
out of it
all together
but there will come to you
guidance
from Me"
and who follows
My guidance
no fear
will be on them
nor sadness
but those
who are ungrateful
and call Our Signs lies
they will live together
in the Fire
forever
Tribe of Israel
remember My blessing
the way that I blessed you
and act on
your promise to Me
and I will act on
My promise to you
and fear Me
and believe in what
I have sent down
which proves true
what is with you
and do not be
the first
to disbelieve it
and do not sell My Signs
for a low price
and be Mindful of Me
and do not confuse
the truth with
what is false
or hide the truth
when you know it
and make Sala
and pay Zaka
and bow with
those who bow
will you tell others
to be good
and forget
to be good
yourselves
while you say
what is in the Book?
do you not understand?
search for help
in patience and prayer
though this is hard
except for those
who are humble
those who are aware
that they shall meet
their Liege
to Hu
they are returning
Tribe of Israel
remember My blessing
the way that I blessed you
and favoured you
over all others
and beware of a day
when no soul will stand
in the place of another
for anything
and begging forgiveness
for another
will not be accepted
no ransom will be taken
nor will they be helped
and when We saved you
from the people of Pharaoh
who were giving you
a terrible punishment
killing your sons
but saving your women
and in that
was a sore trial
from your Liege
and when We divided
the sea for you
and rescued you
and drowned
the people of Pharaoh
while you watched
and when We gave Moses
forty nights
and you made
the Calf for yourselves
to worship
after he was gone
and you were
without justice
then We forgave you
after that
so that you might be
thankful
and We gave to Moses
the Book
and the way
to understand
its meaning
so that you might be
guided
and when Moses
said to his people
"My people
you have done wrong
against yourselves
by worshipping the Calf
now turn to
your Maker
and kill each other
that would be better for you
in your Maker's eyes
Hu will turn to you
with forgiveness"
truly Hu is
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Ever-Merciful
and when you said
"Moses
we will not believe you
until we see God
with our own eyes"
so the thunderbolt took you
while you saw
then We raised you up
after you were dead
so that you might be
thankful
and We spread out
the cloud
over you
to give you shade
and We sent down
for you
manna and quails
"Eat of the good things
We have given you"
and they did not do wrong
affecting Us
but only wronged
themselves
and when We said
"Enter this town
and eat freely
wherever you will
and enter in at the gate
in Sajda
and say
'Take away
what weighs us down'"
We will forgive you
for what you did wrong
and make more
who do good
then the ones
who did wrong
put in a saying
which had not
been said
to them
so We sent down
on the unjust
anger
out of heaven
for the wickedness
they did
and when Moses
asked for water
for his people
We said
"Strike the rock
with your staff"
and from it
there gushed
twelve fountains
and all the people
now knew
their drinking place
eat and drink
of what God gives
and do no wrong
on the earth
and spread no sickness
and when you said
"Moses
we will not stay patient
with one sort of food
pray to your Liege for us
so Hu can bring out
what comes from the earth
green herbs
cucumbers
corn
lentils
onions"
he said
"Would you exchange
what is better
for what is worse?
get back to Egypt
there you can have
what you are asking for"
and they were made
poor and humble
and were loaded down
with the weight of
God's anger
that is because
they had been
ungrateful
for the Signs of God
unjustly killing
God's Newsbringers
and because
they rebelled
and went
beyond the limits
be sure that
those who believe
and those who are Jews
and Christians
and Sabaeans
and whoever believes
in God and the Last Day
and does good
their wage
is waiting for them
with their Liege
and no fear
will be on them
and no sorrow
and when We took
your promise
We raised above you
the mountain
so take hold of what
We have given you
and remember
what is in it
so you might be
Mindful of God
then after that
you turned away
and but for
God's favour
and mercy
on you
you would have been
of the losers
and well you know
there were those
among you
who fought
on the Sabbath
and We said to them
"Be you apes
miserable
cast out"
and We made it
an example
of a punishment
for all the times
before and after
and a warning
to those who are
Mindful of God
and when Moses
said to his people
"God tells you
to offer up a cow"
they said
"Are you making fun of us?"
he said
"I ask God to protect me
in case I am
one of the ignorant"
they said
"Pray to your Liege for us
so Hu can make clear to us
what sort she must be"
he said
"Hu says
she is not old
nor still young
but in the middle
between the two
so do as you are told"
they said
"Pray to your Liege for us
so Hu can make clear to us
what her colour
might be"
he said
"Hu says she shall be
a golden coloured cow
bright in colour
pleasing to see"
they said
"Pray to your Liege for us
so Hu can make clear to us
what she may be
cows all look
much the same to us
so if God wishes
then we shall be guided"
he said
"Hu says
she shall be a cow
not broken
to plough the earth
or draw water
for your crops
one kept safe
showing nothing
wrong with her"
they said
"Now you have
told the truth"
and so they
killed her
as an offering
to God
but they almost
did not do it
and remember when
you killed someone
and blamed
each other
for it
and God showed
what you were hiding
so We said
"Hit him with part of it"
even so
God brings the dead
to life
and Hu shows you
Hu's Signs
so you might have
understanding
then your hearts
became hard
after that
like stones
or even harder
for there are stones
from which rivers gush
and others split
so water comes from them
and others crash down
from fear of God
and God is aware of
the things you do
are you eager then
that they believe with you
when some of them
heard God's Word
and then changed it
after they knew
what it really was?
and when they meet
those who believe
they say
"We believe"
and when they are
alone with each other
they say
"Do you speak to them
about what God
has shown to you
so they can argue with you
about your Liege?"
do you not understand?
do they not know
that God knows
what they keep secret
and what they say out loud
and some of them
are ignorant people
who do not know
the Book
but only imaginings
and guessing
so woe to those
who write a book
with their own hands
then say
"This is from God"
so they may sell it
for a little price
woe to them
for what their hands
have written
and woe to them
for what they earn
and they say
"The Fire
will not touch us
except for a few days"
say
"Have you
made an agreement
with God?
for God never breaks
a promise
or do you say things
against God
about which
you know nothing?"
no
those who do wrong
and their bad deeds
are all around them
those are
the companions of
the Fire
and will live there
forever
and those that believe
and do good deeds
those are
the companions of
the Garden
and will live there
forever
and We agreed
with the Tribe of Israel
"You shall not serve
anyone except God
and to be good to parents
and family
and to orphans
and the poor and needy
and speak good to people
and make the Sala
and pay the Zaka"
then you turned away
swerving aside
all but a few of you
and We agreed with you
that you shall not
spill your own blood
nor drive your people
out from where you live
then you agreed it
and you yourselves
were witnesses
then there you are
killing one another
and driving people
out from where they live
ganging up against them
in doing wrong
as enemies
and if they are
brought to you
as prisoners
you ransom them
though you were forbidden
to drive them out
do you believe
in part of the Book
and not believe
in part of it?
what will be the reward
for those of you
who do that
other than disgrace
in this life
and on
the Day of Rising
you are given new life
to be returned
to a terrible punishment?
and God is aware
of the things that you do
those who have
paid for this life
with the price of
the world to come
for them
the punishment
will not be made light
nor will they be helped
and We gave to Moses
the Book
and sent Messengers
following after him
and We gave Jesus
son of Mary
the Clear Signs
and made him strong
with the Holy Spirit
and whenever
there came to you
a Messenger
saying what
you did not want
you became proud
and some of them
you called liars
and some you killed
and they say
"Our hearts are
bound up"
but God has
rejected them
for being ungrateful
and little will they
believe
when there came to them
a Book from God
agreeing with what
they had already heard
and before that
they had been asking
for victory
over those who were
ungrateful
and when
what came
down to them
was only what
they already knew
they were themselves
ungrateful
and God rejects
the ungrateful
how miserable
is what they have
sold themselves for
being ungrateful
for what
God has sent down
grudging that God
would send down
Hu's bounty upon
whoever Hu wants
from Hu's servants
and they were
weighed down
with anger
upon anger
and for the ungrateful
there is waiting
a shameful punishment
and when they were told
"Believe in what
God has sent down"
they said
"We believe in what was
sent down to us"
and they do not believe
in anything except that
but it is the truth
proving what they
have heard already
say
"Why then did you kill
the Messengers of God
before this
if you were believers?"
and Moses came to you
with the Clear Signs
but then you took
to yourselves
the Calf
after him
and you were unjust
and We made
an agreement
with you
and raised above you
the mountain
take firm hold
of what
We have given you
and listen
they said
"We hear and disobey"
and they were made
to take the Calf
into their hearts
because they were
ungrateful
say
"What you believe
has made you do evil
if indeed you do believe"
say
"If the last home with God
is to be for you alone
and not for other people
then hope for death
if you speak the truth"
but they will never
hope for it
because of
what they have done
God knows those
who are unjust
and you shall find them
the most greedy
for life
and of those who
say God has partners
there are those
who wish
they might live
for a thousand years
yet being kept alive
would not take away
from them
the punishment
God sees what they do
say
"Whoever might be
an enemy to Gabriel
should know
that was
who brought this down
upon your heart
with the permission
of God
making clear the truth
of what was before it
and as a guide
and good news
to those who believe"
whoever is an enemy
to God and Hu's Angels
and Hu's Messengers
and Gabriel and Michael
surely God
is an enemy
to those who are
ungrateful
and We have
sent down
Signs to you
Clear Signs
and none are
ungrateful
for them
except the wicked
when they have made
an agreement
why do some of them
cast it aside?
most of them
do not believe
when there has
come to them
a Messenger from God
that makes clear
the truth
of what they had
a group of them
that were given the Book
put the Book of God
behind their backs
as though they did not
recognise it
and they follow what
the Satans spoke
over the kingdom
of Solomon
and Solomon
was not ungrateful
but the Satans
were ungrateful
teaching the people
sorcery
and what was sent down
on the two Angels of
Babylon
Harut and Marut
they did not teach anyone
without first saying
"We are only a temptation
so do not be ungrateful"
and from them they learned
how to split apart
a husband and wife
but they did not
hurt anyone that way
except with the permission
of God
and they learned
what hurt them
and brought them no good
and they know that
any who deal in it
will have no share
in the world to come
what they sold themselves for
was evil
if only they had known
but if they had believed
and been Mindful of God
a reward from God
would have been better
if only they had known
you who believe
do not just say
"Look at us"
but say
"Watch and listen"
because waiting for
those who are ungrateful
is a painful punishment
those who are ungrateful
from the People of the Book
as well as those
who worship idols
do not wish that any good
should come to you
from your Liege
but God chooses
whoever Hu wills
to give mercy
and God's favour
has no limits
and for any Sign We change
or cause to be forgotten
we bring one better
or equal to it
do you not know
that God is powerful
over everything?
do you not know
that to God belongs
the Realm of
the heavens and the earth
and that you have no-one
apart from God
to be either
protector or helper?
or do you want
to question
your Messenger
as Moses was questioned
in earlier times?
whoever exchanges
their belief
for being ungrateful
has surely strayed
away from the right way
many of the
People of the Book
wish that even
after you have believed
they could make you
ungrateful again
out of jealousy
inside themselves
after the truth
has been made
clear to them
but forgive them
and ignore them
until God's command
truly God is powerful
over everything
and make the Sala
and pay the Zaka
whatever good
you store up
you shall find it
with God
surely God sees
the things that you do
and they say
"None shall enter
the Garden
unless they are
Jews or Christians"
that is just their
wishful thinking
say
"Show your proof
if you speak the truth"
no
any who
surrender completely
to God
doing good
their wage is with
their Liege
and no fear
shall be on them
nor shall they
sorrow
the Jews say
"The Christians
have nothing
to stand on"
and the Christians say
"The Jews
have nothing
to stand on"
but they both
read the Book
so too
the ignorant
say much like
the both of them
God will judge
the differences
between them
on the Day of Rising
and who does
greater wrong
than one who
keeps people
from visiting
God's places of worship
so that Hu's Name
is not
remembered in them
or one who tries
to destroy them
such people might
never enter them
except in fear
for them is
disgrace in this life
and for them
painful punishment
in the life to come
to God belongs
the East and the West
wherever you turn
there is
the Face of God
God is Everywhere
All-knowing
and they say
"God has had a son"
glory be to Hu
to Hu belongs
all that is in
the heavens and the earth
all obey Hu's will
Beginner-of-Creation
for the heavens
and the earth
when Hu decides
upon something
Hu just says to it
"Be"
and it is
and those that
do not know
say
"Why does God
not speak to us?
why does a Sign
not come to us?"
just like those
before them
who said the same
as they say now
their hearts are
much the same
but We have
made the Signs clear
for a people
who are sure
We have sent you
with the truth
bringing good news
and a warning
you will not be
responsible for
the companions of
Hellfire
the Jews will never
be satisfied with you
nor will the Christians
until you follow
their religion
say
"God guides
Hu is the Guide"
if you follow
their wishes
after the knowledge
that has come to you
you shall have
no protector
or helper
against God
those to whom
We have given the Book
and who read it
in the way
it should be read
they believe in it
and whoever is
ungrateful for it
they will be
the losers
Tribe of Israel
remember My blessings
when I blessed you
and favoured you
over other people
and beware a day
when no soul
can stand
in place of another
no ransom
will be accepted
no cry for help
will make things better
nor shall they
be helped
and when Abraham
was tested by his Liege
with certain commands
which he followed
Hu said
"See how
I make you
a leader for the people"
said he
"What of my family
that come after me?"

"My Word
does not reach
those who do wrong"
and We made
the House
a place of return
and a safe
place of worship
for humankind
take to yourselves
the place
where Abraham stood
for a place of prayer
and We agreed
with Abraham
and Ishmael
make My House pure
for those that go about it
and those that stay there
and those that bow
and make Sajda
and Abraham said
"My Liege
make this land safe
and give its people
fruits to eat
whoever believes
in God and the Last Day"
Hu said
"And to whoever is
ungrateful
I will give some
small enjoyment
then I shall force them
into the punishment
of the Fire"
how dreadful is that
for a home
and Abraham
built the base of
the House
with Ishmael
saying
"Our Liege
accept this from us
You are
the All-Hearing
the All-Knowing"
and our Liege
make us
surrender ourselves
to You
and make our family
that comes after us
a community that
surrenders themselves
to You
and show us
the ways
we should worship
and turn towards us
truly You are
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Most-Merciful
our Liege
send among them
a Messenger
one of them
who shall
speak to them
Your Signs
and teach them
the Book
and Wisdom
and make them pure
You are
the All-Mighty
the All-Wise
who would refuse
the Way of Abraham
except someone
simple-minded?
indeed We chose him
in this world
and in the world to come
he will be with those
who have done right
when his Liege said to him
"Surrender"
he said
"I have surrendered
to the Liege of all that is"
and Abraham
told his children
to do the same
as did Jacob
"My children
God has chosen
this Way of Life for you
see that you do not die
if not surrendered"
or did you see
when death came to Jacob
and he said to his children
"Who will you serve after me?"
they said
"We will serve your God
the God of your fathers
Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac
One God
to Hu we surrender"
those are a people
who have long since
passed away
what they have earned
waits for them
and what you have earned
waits for you
and you will not be asked
about the things they did
and they say
"Be Jews or Christians
and you will be guided"
say
"No
we prefer
the Way of Abraham
a pure belief
he would not
set up partners
to God"
say
"We believe in God
and in what has been
sent down on us
and sent down on
Abraham and Ishmael
Isaac and Jacob
and the Tribes
and in
what was given
to Moses and Jesus
and the Messengers
of their Liege
we do not make
division
between them
and to God
we surrender"
and if they believe
in the like of
what you believe in
then they are
truly guided
but if they turn away
and they are clearly set
on being enemies
God will be enough
for you against them
Hu is
the All-Hearing
the All-Knowing
colouring
is by God
and who could be
fairer
at colouring
than God?
Hu we are serving
say
"Do you want
to argue with us
about God
Hu is our Liege
and your Liege?
to us
what we do
and to you
what you do
God
we serve
with open hearts"
or do you say
Abraham and Ishmael
Isaac and Jacob
and the Tribes
were Jews
or they were
Christians?
say
"Do you
know better
or does God?"
and who does more wrong
to those given the Book
than one who hides Words
that come from God
and God
does not ignore
the things you do
that is a people
who have passed away
waiting for them
is what they deserve
and waiting for you
is what you deserve
and you
will not be asked
about the things
they did
the fools
among the people
will say
"What turned them
from the direction
they were facing
in their Sala
before"
say
"To God belong
the East and the West"
Hu guides
whoever Hu wills
to a straight path
in this way
We have made you
a community
at the centre
so you may be
witnesses
to humankind
and so that the Messenger
may be a witness
to you
and We did not
set the direction
that you used to face
except to make clear
those who
followed the Messenger
from those who
turned on their heels
that was hard
except for those
God guided
but God would never
let your belief
go to waste
truly God is
Forgiving-by-Nature
and
Ever-Merciful
to humankind
We have seen you
looking up into heaven
turning your face
this way and that
We will surely turn you
to a direction
that will please you
turn your face towards
the Holy Mosque
and wherever you are
turn your faces
towards it
those who have been
given the Book
know it is the truth
from their Liege
God does not ignore
the things they do
yet if you were to bring
to those given the Book
every Sign
they still would not follow
your direction
you do not follow
their direction
nor do they follow
each other's direction
if you follow
their wishes
after the knowledge
that has come to you
then you would surely
be among those
who are unjust
those to whom
We have given the Book
recognise it as easily as
they recognise
their children
even though some of them
hold back
the truth that they know
the truth comes
from your Liege
so do not be
among those
who doubt it
everyone has a direction
to which they turn
so race to do
good deeds
wherever you may be
God will bring you all
together
surely God is
powerful
over everything
from whatever place
you come
turn your face to
the Holy Mosque
it is the truth
from your Liege
God does not ignore
the things you do
from whatever place
you come
turn your face
to the Holy Mosque
and wherever
you may be
turn your faces
towards it
so the people
may not have
any argument
against you
except those
among them
who do wrong
and do not fear them
but rather fear Me
and that way
I may perfect
My blessing on you
so that perhaps
you might be guided
just as We have
sent among you
of yourselves
a Messenger
to read aloud
Our Signs to you
and to make you pure
and to teach you
the Book
and the Wisdom
and to teach you
what you did not know
so remember Me
and I will remember you
and be thankful to Me
and do not be
ungrateful
you who believe
ask for help
in patience
and Sala
surely God is with
those who are patient
and do not say
of those killed in God's Way
"They are dead"
they are alive
but you are not aware of it
surely We will test you
with some fear
and hunger
and loss of things
and lives and fruits
but give good news
to those who are
patient
those who
when they are
struck by disaster
say
"Surely we belong to God
and to Hu we return"
on those rest
blessings and mercy
from their Liege
and those are
the truly guided
Safa and Marwa
are among
the waymarks of God
so whoever makes Hajj
to the House
or Umra
it is not wrong for them
to go back and forth
between them
and whoever offers
to do good
God is
All-Thankful
All-Knowing
those who hide
the Clear Signs
and the guidance
that We have sent down
after We have
shown them clearly
to humankind
in the Book
God rejects them
and others also
reject them
except those who are sorry
and put things right
and make things clear
I turn towards them
and I am
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
the Ever-Merciful
but those who are
ungrateful
and die ungrateful
God rejects them
as do the Angels
and the rest of
humankind
they live that way
forever
and the punishment
will not be made easy
for them
and they will be given
no relief
your God is One God
there is no god but Hu
the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
surely in the creation
of the heavens
and the earth
and the turning about
of night and day
and the ship that runs
in the sea
with profit for humankind
and the water
God sends down
from heaven
and with it
brings the earth
back to life
after it is dead
and God's scattering in it
all kinds of crawling things
and the swirling
of the winds
and the clouds
that are driven
between heaven and earth
surely there are Signs
for a people
who have
understanding
but there are some people
who set up others
as equal to God
loving them
as they should love God
but those who believe
are stronger

lawful and good
from the earth
and do not follow

it is a clear enemy to you
it only tells you
to do what is
wrong and disgusting
and to say about God
what you do not know
and when it is said to them
"Follow what God
has sent down"
they say
"We will not
we will follow
the things that
our parents were doing"
and they say that
even though
their parents had
no understanding
of anything
and were not guided
the example of those
who are ungrateful
is like someone
who shouts out
to something
which cannot hear
it is just a calling out
a noise
they will not
hear or speak or see
they do not understand
you who believe
eat of the good things
which We have given you
and give thanks to God
if it is God that you serve
Hu has only forbidden you
creatures found
already dead
blood
the meat of pigs
and what has been
offered to a god
other than
God
but anyone who is
forced to eat
without wanting it
or carelessly disobeying
commits no sin
and God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
those who hide
what they know of the Book
that God has sent down
and exchange it for
a small amount
they take nothing
into their bellies
except fire
God will not
speak to them
on the Day of Rising
nor make them pure
there is waiting for them
a painful punishment
those are the ones
that have bought
what is mistaken
instead of
a true guide
and bought
punishment
for the price of
forgiveness
how patient
they will be
in the Fire
that is because
God
has sent down
the Book
with the truth
and those that argue
about the Book
are deep in division
it does not make you good
to turn your faces
to the East and West
true goodness is this
to believe in God
and the Last Day
the Angels
the Book
and the Newsbringers
those who give
of what they have
however precious
to family and orphans
to the poor and travellers
to beggars
and to free slaves
to make Sala
to pay Zaka
those who keep
their side of a bargain
when they have made
an agreement
and face with patience
times when they are poor
and hard times
and times of danger
those are the ones
who are true in their belief
those are the ones
who are
Mindful of God
you who believe
fighting back
is allowed for you
when people
have been killed
free man for free man
slave for slave
woman for woman
but whoever is
forgiven a deed
by another
let them claim
honourable payment
for the blood
that was spilled
and let it be paid
in good will
that makes things lighter
a gift from your Liege
and a mercy
and for those
who continue fighting
after that
there is waiting for them
a painful punishment
in fair compensation
is the saving of life
for those of you
with understanding
so you might be
Mindful of God
it is written for you
when any of you
are visited by death
and their goods
will be left behind
to make a will
in favour of
your parents and family
correctly and honorably
a duty for those
Mindful of God
then if anyone
changes it
after hearing it
the fault will be
with those who
change it
surely
God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
but if anyone
fears injustice
or wrong doing
from the one
making the will
and makes things right
between those involved
then they are not to blame
surely
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
you who believe
it is written for you
that you make the Saum
just as it was written
for those that were
before you
so that you might be
Mindful of God
for a set number
of days
and if any of you
are ill
or on a journey
then a number
of other days
and for those
who miss days
when they could fast
make up for it
by feeding the poor
but it is better for those
who offer to do good
and it is better for you
to make Saum
if you only knew
the month of
Ramadhan
in which
the Reading
was sent down
to be a guide
to humankind
with Clear Signs
to guide
and a way to understand
its meaning
so let those of you
who are present
for the month
make Saum
and if any of you
are ill
or on a journey
then make Saum
on a number
of other days
God wants you
to have ease
not hardship
and that you complete
the number of days
and praise God
that Hu has guided you
so that you might be
thankful
and when My servants
question you
concerning
Me
I am near
to answer the call
of those who call
when they call
to Me
so let them
answer to Me
and believe in Me
so that they might be
on the right way
it is allowed
on the nights of Saum
to lie with your partners
they are a garment
for you
and you are a garment
for them
God knows
that you have been
dishonest
and has turned to you
and forgiven you
so now lie with them
and search for
what God has written
for you
and eat and drink
until the white thread
shows clearly
from the black thread
at the dawn
then complete the Saum
until the night
and do not lie with them
when you withdraw
to the mosques
those are God's limits
keep well within them
so God makes clear
Hu's Signs to humankind
so that they might be
Mindful of God
do not use up
your wealth
in wrong doing
nor offer it
to bribe those who judge
so that you might
use up the riches
of other people
wrongfully
and knowingly
they will ask you about
the crescent moons
say
"They are set times
for humankind
and for the Hajj"
goodness
is not from
visiting houses
from the rear
goodness
is to be
Mindful of God
so visit houses
by their front doors
and be
Mindful of God
and hopefully
that way
you will prosper
and fight
in the Way of God
with those
who fight with you
but do not go
beyond the limits
God does not love
those who go
beyond the limits
kill them
wherever you find them
and drive them out
from where
they drove you out
persecution
is worse than killing
but do not fight them
near the Holy Mosque
unless they fight you there
then if they fight you
kill them
that is the reward
for those who are
ungrateful
but if they stop fighting
surely God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
fight them until
there is no persecution
and the Way of Life
is God's
then if they stop fighting
you should not be enemies
except to the unjust
holy month
for holy month
holy things
demand repayment
so if anyone
steps over the limits
with you
step over the limits
with them
as they did to you
but be
Mindful of God
and know that God
is with those
who are
Mindful of God
and spend
in the Way of God
and do not
destroy yourselves
by your own hands
but do good
God loves
those who do good
make the Hajj
and Umra
for God
but if
you are prevented
then offer up
what you can
and do not
shave your heads
until what you give
has reached its
place of sacrifice
and if any of you
are ill
or injured in the head
then fast instead
or give charity
or sacrifice
when you are safe
whoever enjoys
the Umra and the Hajj
let them offer
what they can
as a sacrifice
or if they have nothing
then a fast for three days
during the Hajj
and seven days
when you return home
that is ten in all
that is for anyone
whose family
do not live near
the Holy Mosque
and be
Mindful of God
and know
that God is
fierce in repayment
the Hajj takes place
in months well-known
for whoever makes Hajj
they shall not
lie with their partners
or do wrong
or quarrel
during the Hajj
whatever good you do
God knows it
and provide for yourselves
but the best provision
is being Mindful of God
so be Mindful of Me
if you have
understanding
there is nothing wrong
in searching for
bounty from your Liege
but when you press on
from Arafa
remember God
at the holy landmark
and remember Hu
as Hu has guided you
though before that
you had taken
the wrong way
then press on
from where
the people press on
and ask for
God's forgiveness
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
and when
you have finished
your holy rites
remember God
as you remember
your parents
or more so
now there are
some people
who say
"Our Liege
give to us
in this world"
such people
will have
no part in
the world to come
and others say
"Our Liege
give to us
in this world
good
and good in
the world to come
and guard us against
the punishment
of the Fire"
those shall have
a good part
of what
they have earned
and God is
swift at reckoning
and remember God
on those days
that have been numbered
and if anyone hurries
taking two days
there is nothing wrong
and those who stay
another day
have done no wrong
those who are
Mindful of God
and be Mindful of God
and know that
it is to Hu
you shall be gathered
and among the people
there are some
whose words about
this present world
please you
such as call on God
to witness
what is in their hearts
yet they fight
stubbornly
against you
and when they
turn their backs
they rush about the earth
to spread sickness
destroying crops
and animals
and God
does not love
the spreading of sickness
and when it is said to them
"Be Mindful of God"
pride leads them
into wrongdoing
so Hell will be
enough for them
what an evil place
to end in
but there are others
that give up everything
wanting only
God's good pleasure
and God is forgiving
with Hu's servants
you who believe
enter into
peacefulness
all together
and do not follow
the footsteps of Satan
it is a clear enemy to you
but if you slip
after the Clear Signs
have come to you
know that
God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
what are they waiting for
apart from that God
should come to them
in the cloud shadows
together with
the Angels
in which case
the matter
will have been settled
and all matters return
to God
ask the Tribe of Israel
how many
Clear Signs
We gave them
if anyone changes
God's blessing
after it has come to them
truly
God
is severe
in repayment
this present life
is made to seem
glamorous
to those who are
ungrateful
and they make fun of
the believers
but those who are
Mindful of God
will be above them
on the Day of Rising
and God provides
for whoever Hu wills
without reckoning
humankind
was a single people
then God sent
the Newsbringers
with good news
and a warning
and Hu sent with them
the Book
with the truth
to decide between people
with regard to
their differences
only those
who had been given it
disagreed about it
after the Clear Signs
had come to them
envying one another
then by Hu's permission
to those who believed
God guided them
to the truth
concerning those things
about which
they had disagreed
and God guides
whoever Hu wills
to a straight path
or did you suppose
you would enter
Paradise
without facing the same
as those who
came before you?
they suffered
poverty and illness
and were so shaken
that the Messenger
and those who
also believed
said
"When is
God's help
coming?"
but be sure
God's help
is near
they will ask you
questions about
what they should
give away
say
"Any wealth
you give away
should go to
your parents
and family
and to orphans
and the poor
and travellers"
and whatever good you do
God knows it
it is written
that you should fight
even though
you find it hateful
but it may be
that you will hate a thing
which is better for you
and it may happen
that you will love a thing
which is worse for you
God knows
and you know not
they will ask you
about the holy month
and fighting in it
say
"Fighting in it
is a great offence
but to bar people
from the Way of God
and being ungrateful to Hu
and for the Holy Mosque
and to drive its people
away from it
that is more offensive
in God's sight"
and persecution
is more offensive
than killing
they will not stop
fighting with you
until they turn you
away from
your Way of Life
if they are able
and whoever of you
turns away from
your Way of Life
and dies ungrateful
their works
will come to nothing
in this world
and the next
they are the ones
who will live
in the Fire
living there
forever
those who believe
and those who made Hijra
and struggle in God's Way
those have hope
of God's mercy
and God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
they will ask you about
alcohol and gambling
say
"In both is great wrong
though also
some benefits
for humankind
but the wrong in them
is much greater
than the benefits"
they will ask you about
what they should
give away
say
"Whatever is more
than your need"
so God makes clear
Hu's Signs to you
so you will
think about them
in this world
and the world to come
they will ask you about
the property of orphans
say
"Managing it
in their best interests
is best"
and if you mix with them
they are your siblings
God knows well
the one who
spreads sickness
from the one who
makes things right
and if Hu willed
Hu would have
been hard on you
surely God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
do not marry women
who worship idols
until they believe
a slavegirl who believes
is better than a woman
who worships idols
even though
she may attract you
and do not marry men
who worship idols
until they believe
a slave who believes
is better than a man
who worships idols
even though
he may attract you
such people call you
to the Fire
and God calls you
by Hu's permission
to Paradise
and forgiveness
and Hu makes clear
Hu's Signs to humankind
so hopefully
they will remember
they will ask you about
menstruation
say
"It is hurtful
so keep away from them
during that time
until they are clean again
then when they are
clean again
go to them
in the way that
God has told you"
truly God loves
those who are sorry
and Hu loves
those who
keep themselves clean
your women are like
fertile fields for you
so visit those fields
as you wish
and send good ahead
for yourselves
and be Mindful of God
and know that you
shall meet Hu
and give good news
to the believers
and do not make
your promises before God
get in the way
of doing good
and being
Mindful of God
and putting things right
between people
surely God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
God will not
blame you
if you make a mistake
in what you say
in your promises
but Hu will
blame you
for what your hearts
have earned
and God is
Most-Forgiving
Gentle
for those men who wish
to give up their women
they must wait
four months
away from them
then if they
change their minds
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
but if they are
still sure that
they wish for
a divorce
surely God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
divorced women
shall wait
without a partner
for three periods
and it is not lawful
for them to hide
what God has created
in their wombs
if they believe
in God and the Last Day
in that time
their husbands
can take them back
if they want
to make things right
between them
women
have similar rights
to those held over them
in the way of
what is seen
to be fair
but men have
an advantage
over them
and God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
divorce
can happen twice
then an honourable return
to staying together
or setting free
with kindess
it is not lawful
for you to take back
what has been given
unless the couple
are afraid
that they will not
remain in God's limits
if you fear they may not
remain in God's limits
then there is nothing wrong
if they exchange money
to ease the separation
those are the limits
set by God
so do not step beyond them
whoever steps beyond
the limits set by God
those are the wrong doers
if a husband
divorces his wife
a second time
after that
she will not be
lawful for him
until she has taken
another husband
if that one divorces her
there will be no blame
if she and
the first husband
return to one another
as long as they feel
that they will stay
within God's limits
and these are
the limits of God
Hu makes them clear
to people who know
when you divorce women
and they have reached
the end of
their waiting time
then keep them
with honour
or free them
with honour
do not keep them
by force
intending to harm them
whoever does that
has done wrong
to himself
do not take God's Signs
as a joke
and remember
God's blessing on you
and what
Hu has sent down
from
the Book
and the Wisdom
to teach you
and be
Mindful of God
and know that
God
knows everything
when you divorce women
and they have reached
the end of
their waiting time
do not stop them
from marrying
their ex-partners
when both have
agreed together
with honour
that is a teaching
for whoever believes
in God and the Last Day
that is cleaner
and purer
for you
God knows
and you
know not
mothers
nurse their children
a full two years
if they wish to complete
the full term
it is a duty on
fathers
to provide for them
and clothe them
with honour
no soul
will be weighed down
with more than
it can carry
a mother should not
suffer harm for a child
nor should
a father for a child
and the one
who inherits
is like that
but if a couple
both agree
after discussion
they would like
to wean
then there is
nothing wrong
in their doing so
and if you wish
to find a wet-nurse
then there is
nothing wrong
in your doing so
as long as
you hand over
what you agreed
to give with honour
and be
Mindful of God
and know that
God sees
the things you do
and those of you
who die
leaving wives behind
they shall wait
by themselves
for four months
and ten nights
when they have reached
the end of that time
then there is
no blame on you
in what they choose
to do with themselves
with honour
God
is aware of
the things you do
and there is no fault
in you
for what you feel
for those you propose to
or hide in your hearts
God knows
that you will be
mindful of them
but do not
make secret meetings
with them
unless you speak
words of honour
and do not decide
on the knot
of marriage
until
the waiting time
has reached its end
and know
that God knows
what is in
your hearts
so beware of Hu
and know that God is
Most-Forgiving
Gentle
there is no fault in you
if you divorce women
before you have
touched them
or agreed on
a dowry for them
but provide for them
the rich
what they can afford
and the poor
what they can afford
with honour
a duty
for those who
do good
and if you divorce them
before
you have touched them
but you have
already agreed on
a dowry
then one half of
what you had agreed
unless it be
they let it go
or the one who holds
the knot of the
marriage contract
lets it go
but that you should
let it go
is nearer to being
Mindful of God
do not forget
to be generous
to each other
surely God sees
the things
you do
keep careful watch
over Sala
and the middle Sala
and stand
in obedience
to God
and if you are
afraid
then make Sala
on foot
or seated
while travelling
but when you are safe
then remember God
as Hu taught you
the things that
you did not know
and those of you
who die
leaving wives behind
let them leave
enough for their wives
to live for a year
without them having
to leave their homes
but if they choose to leave
there is no blame on you
for anything
they choose to do
for themselves
with honour
God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
divorced women
should also be given
what is fair
this is a duty
on those who are
Mindful of God
so God
makes clear
Hu's Signs for you
so that you might
understand
have you not thought
about those
who left their homes
in thousands
afraid of death?
God said to them
"Die"
then Hu gave them life
truly God is
generous
to humankind
but most people
are not thankful
so fight in
the Way of God
and know
that God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
and who
will lend God
a good loan
so that Hu can
multiply it for them
many times over?
God
makes things smaller
and spreads them out wide
and to Hu
you will be returned
have you not thought
about the leaders of
the Tribe of Israel
after Moses
when they said
to one of
their Newsbringers
"Give us a king
and we will fight
in God's Way"
he said
"Perhaps
if it was written
that you should fight
you would not fight"
they said
"Why would we
not fight
in God's Way
when we were driven
away from our homes
and our children"
but when it was written
that they should fight
they turned their backs
except for
a few of them
and God knows
the ones
who do wrong
then their Newsbringer

"Truly
God has decided that

is to be your king"

who were sure

to meet God

"How often
has a small force

a much greater one
by God's permission"
and God is with
those who are
patient
so when they set out
against Goliath
and his troops
they said
"Our Liege
pour down on us
patience
and make us stand firm
and help us against
those who are
ungrateful"
and they
put them to flight
by the permission
of God
and David killed Goliath
and God gave him
kingly power
and wisdom

if it were not for God
driving some people back
by means of others
sickness would surely
have come upon the earth
but God is generous
to all the worlds

the Signs of God
We speak to you in truth
and indeed
you are one of
the Messengers
and some of
these Messengers
We have preferred
over others
there are some
to whom God spoke
and some
Hu raised in rank
and We gave
Jesus son of Mary
the Clear Signs
and strengthened him
with the Holy Spirit
and had God willed
those who came after him
would not have fought
one against the other
after the Clear Signs
had come to them
but they fell into difference
and some of them believed
and some of them were
ungrateful
and had God willed
they would not have
fought each other
but God does
whatever Hu wishes
you who believe
spend of what
We have given you
before
a day comes
in which there shall be
no trading
no friendship
no pleading for another
and the ungrateful ones
they are
the ones who are unjust
God
there is no god but Hu
the Ever-Living
the Self-Existing
no sleepiness
and no sleep
take Hu
to Hu
belongs
all that is in
the heavens
and the earth
who is there
can plead with Hu
except by Hu's permission?
Hu knows
what lies before them
and what is after them
and they understand
nothing of
Hu's knowledge
except as Hu wills
Hu's Throne is
as wide as
the heavens and the earth
and protecting them
does not tire Hu
Hu is
the Most-High
the All-Mighty
no one can be
forced to follow
the right Way of Life
what is right
has been made clear
compared to error
so
whoever
disbelieves in idols
and believes in God
has taken hold of
the most firm hand-hold
that cannot break
God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
God is
the Protector
of those who believe
Hu brings them out
from the shadows
into the light
and those who are
ungrateful
their protectors
are idols
that bring them out
from the light
into the shadows
those are the ones
who live in the Fire
living in there
forever
have you not thought
about the one
who argued with
Abraham
about his Liege
saying that God
had given him
the kingship?
when Abraham said
"My Liege is Hu
Hu gives life
and makes to die"
he said
"I give life and make to die"
said Abraham
"God brings the sun up
from the east
so bring it up
from the west"
then the one who was
ungrateful
was
perplexed
God
does not guide
those who do wrong
or like the man
who passed by a city
that had fallen
into ruins
he said
"How will God
give life to this
now it is dead?"
so God made him die
for a hundred years
then brought him
back to life
saying
"How long
do you think

then put them
on separate hills
then call them
and they will come
rushing to you"

All-Mighty

those who
spend their wealth
in the Way of God
are like
a grain of corn
that sprouts seven ears
and in every ear
a hundred grains
and God multiplies
for whoever
Hu wills
and God is
All-Embracing
All-Knowing
those who
spend their wealth
in the Way of God
and do not follow it
with demands for thanks
or hurtful words
their reward
is with their Liege
they will feel
no fear
and will know
no sorrow
kind words
and forgiving
are better than
charity
followed by
hurt
and God is
Rich-beyond-Need
Gentle
you who believe
do not cancel out
your charity
with demands for thanks
or hurtful words
like those who
spend their wealth
to show off to others
and do not believe in
God and the Last Day
they are like
a smooth rock
on which is soil
and when
heavy rain falls on it
it leaves it bare
they have no power
over anything
they have earned
God does not guide
those who are
ungrateful
but those who
spend their wealth
wanting to please God
and to strengthen
themselves
are like
a garden on a hill
when heavy rain
falls on it
it grows
twice as much
and has dew
and God sees
the things
you do
would anyone
want a garden
of palm trees
and grape vines
with rivers flowing
underneath it
and all kinds of fruit
there for them
then they are hit
by old age
and their children
are weak
and then
a whirlwind of fire
strikes it
and burns it away?
God
makes the Signs
clear to you
so you might
think about them
you who believe
give away
some of the good things
you have earned
and some of what
We have brought
from the earth
for you
and do not give away
the bad things
which you would not
take yourselves
except with closed eyes
and know
that God is
Rich-beyond-Need
Most-Praiseworthy
Satan
promises you poverty
and tells you to be
greedy
but God promises you
forgiveness from Hu
and generosity
and God is
All-Embracing
All-Knowing
Hu gives wisdom
to whoever
Hu wills
and whoever
is given wisdom
has been given
much good
but no one remembers
except those
who use
their minds
and however much
you spend
and whatever promise
you make
God knows it
those who do wrong
have no helpers
if you give charity
for all to see
that is good
but if you keep secret
what you give
to the poor
that is better for you
and will make up
for some of
the things
you have done
wrong
God is aware
of the things
you do
it is not for you
to guide them
God guides
whoever Hu wills
and whatever good
you give away
is for yourselves
when you give
only wanting
to see God's Face
and whatever good
you give away
will be repaid to you in full
you will not be wronged
it is for the poor
who are held back
in the Way of God
and cannot
journey in the land
the ignorant
will think
they are rich
because they
hold back
but you will
know them
by the way that
they do not
annoy people
with their begging
and whatever good
you give away
surely
God knows it
those who
give away
their wealth
night and day
secretly and openly
their reward
is waiting for them
with their Liege
and they will feel
no fear
and will know
no sorrow
those who
live off usury
will not rise again
except driven mad
by Satan's touch
that is because
they say
"Trade is like usury"
God has
permitted trade
and forbidden usury
those who get
a warning
from their Liege
and stop
can keep
what they took
in the past
what happens to them
is up to God
but those who
go back to
their old way
they are the ones
who will live in
the Fire
living there
forever
God wipes out usury
but makes charity
grow in value
God does not love
ungrateful
wrong doers
those who believe
and do good works
and make Sala
and pay Zaka
their reward
is waiting for them
with their Liege
and they will feel
no fear
and will know
no sorrow
you who believe
be Mindful of God
and give up
any usury
that is still owed
if you are believers
but if you do not
then take warning
that God and
Hu's Messenger
will wage war on you
but if you turn
and ask forgiveness
you can have
the original amount
doing no wrong
and receiving no wrong
and if anyone
is left in trouble
put off repayment
until things are easier
but giving in charity
is better for you
if you only knew
and be mindful
of a day
when you shall be
returned to God
and every soul
will be paid in full
what it has earned
and they will not
be wronged
you who believe
when you agree a loan
one with another
for a fixed time
write it down
and let a writer
write it down
between you
justly
and do not let
any writer
refuse
to write it down
as God has taught
so let them write
and let the one
who takes the loan
speak the agreement

who takes the loan
is a fool
or weak
or cannot speak
then let their guardian
describe the loan justly
and call in
to oversee it
two men as witnesses
or if not two men
then one man
and two women
that you approve of
then if one of them forgets
the other can remind her
and do not let
the witnesses refuse
when they are asked
and do not think
it is not worth
writing it down
with its terms
whether it is
small or great
that is more just
in God's sight
more reliable
as a witnessing
and more likely
to prevent doubts
between you
unless it be goods
that you give and take
between you
then there will be
no fault in you
if you do not
write it down
and take witnesses
when you trade
with one another
and let no harm be done
either to the writer
or to the witness
if you do that
you are doing wrong
and be
Mindful of God
for God teaches you
and God knows everything
and if you are
on a journey
and you cannot find
someone who can write
then something
can be left
as security
but if one of you
trusts another
let the one who is trusted
fulfil their trust
and let them be
Mindful of God
their Liege
and do not hide
the witnessing
who hides it
has wrong
in their heart
and God knows
the things you do
to God belongs
all that is in
the heavens
and the earth
whether you admit
to what is in your hearts
or hide it
God will call you
to account for it
Hu will forgive
whoever Hu wills
and punish
whoever Hu wills
God has power
over everything
the Messenger
believes
in what was
sent down to him
from his Liege
and those who believe
each one
believes in
God
and Hu's Angels
and Hu's Books
and Hu's Messengers
we make no division
between any of
Hu's Messengers
they say
"We hear and obey
our Liege
send us
Your forgiveness
to You
we come home
God does not
weigh down a soul
with more than it
can bear
standing for it
is what it has earned
and against it is
what it has deserved
our Liege
do not condemn us
if we forget
or make a mistake
our Liege
do not give us
a load such as You gave
to those before us
our Liege
do not weigh us down
beyond what we have
the strength to bear
and pardon us
and forgive us
and have mercy on us
You are our Protector
and help us against
those who are
ungrateful"
