you who believe
keep your promises
you are allowed
all the animals
that flock together
except what
is now said to you
hunting is not allowed
when you are in
the holy state of pilgrim
God
makes happen
whatever Hu wants
you who believe
do not disrepect
God's rituals
or the holy months
or the offering
or the garlands
or those heading for
the Holy House
looking to their Liege
for bounty
and good pleasure
but when you come out of
the holy state of pilgrim
then hunt
do not let
dislike for a people
who barred you from
the Holy Mosque
make you angry enough
to go beyond limits
help each other
to be good
and
Mindful of God
do not help each other
to doing wrong
and making enemies
and be
Mindful of God
surely God is
dreadful in punishing
you are not allowed
creatures found
already dead
blood
the flesh of pigs
what has been offered
to other than God
the beast strangled
the beast beaten to death
the beast fallen to death
the beast gored
what has been eaten
by beasts of prey
unless you can
kill it properly
and what has been
offered up to idols
and deciding
who gets how much
by raffling with arrows
that is nothing
to do with God
today
those who are ungrateful
have given up hope
because of
your Way of Life
so do not be
afraid of them
but be afraid of Me
today
I have made perfect
your Way of Life for you
and I have
made complete
My blessing on you
and I am
pleased with
surrender
as your Way of Life
but if anyone
is forced by hunger
not wanting
to do wrong on purpose
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
they will ask you
what they are allowed
say
"The good things
are allowed for you
and of those creatures
you teach to hunt
training them
like hunting dogs
teaching them
as God has taught you
eat what they catch for you
and say God's Name over it
and be
Mindful of God"
God is quick
to take account
today
the good things
are allowed for you
and the food of those
who were given the Book
is allowed for you
and your food
is allowed for them
and marrying
believing women
and marrying women
from those who were
given the Book before you
if you give them
their marriage dowry
not as casual partners
or secret affairs
whoever rejects belief
their actions
will come to nothing
and in the world to come
they will be
among the losers
you who believe
when you stand up for Sala
wash your faces
and your hands
up to the elbows
and wipe your heads
and your feet
up to the ankles
if you are unclean
make yourselves pure
but if you are sick
or on a journey
or if you have
come from the toilet
or if you have
lain with your partners
and you can find no water
then use clean dust
and wipe your faces
and your hands
with that
God does not want
to make things
difficult for you
Hu wants
to make you pure
so that Hu may
perfect Hu's blessing on you
hopefully
you will be thankful
and remember
God's blessing on you
and the agreement
which Hu made with you
when you said
"We have heard
and we obey"
and be
Mindful of God
surely God knows
the thoughts
within the breast
you who believe
stand up for justice
witnesses for God
do not let
dislike for a people
make you be unjust

God has promised
those who believe
and do good deeds
they shall have
forgiveness
and a mighty reward
and those who were
ungrateful
and called Our Signs lies
they will be
the companions of Hellfire
you who believe
remember
God's blessing upon you
when certain people
were about to
raise their hands
against you
and Hu held back
their hands from you
and be
Mindful of God
and in God
let the believers
put their trust
God
made an agreement
with the Tribe of Israel
and We raised up
from among them
twelve leaders
and God said
"I am with you
surely
if you make Sala
and pay Zaka
and believe in
My Messengers
and support them
and lend to God
a good loan
I will forgive you
your bad deeds
and I will let you into
gardens
underneath which
rivers flow
so whoever of you
disbelieves after that
surely has wandered
away from the right way"
so because they broke
their promise
We rejected them
and made their hearts hard
they twist
the meaning of words
and have forgotten
a part of
what they were
reminded of
and you will always find
acts of treason with them
except for a few of them
but forgive them
and overlook them
surely God loves
those who do good
and We
made an agreement
with those who say
"We are Christians"
and they have forgotten
a part of
what they were reminded of
so We have stirred up hate
and made them enemies
among themselves
until the Day of Rising
and God will surely
tell them of
the things they did
People of the Book
now there has come to you
Our Messenger
making clear to you
many things
from the Book
that you have been hiding
and pardoning much
there has come to you
from God
a light
and a Clear Book
by which God guides
whoever follows
Hu's good pleasure
in the ways of peace
and brings them out
from the shadows
into the light
by Hu's permission
and Hu guides them
to a straight path
they are ungrateful
who say
"God is the Messiah
Mary's son"
say
"Who then
has power over God
in any way
if Hu wishes to destroy
the Messiah
Mary's son
and his mother
and all those
living on the earth?"
to God belongs the Realm
of the heavens and the earth
and all that is between them
Hu creates
whatever Hu wills
God is powerful
over everything
the Jews
and the Christians
say
"We are the children of God
and Hu's beloved ones"
say
"Why then
does Hu punish you
for your sins?"
no
you are mortals
of Hu's creating
Hu forgives
whoever Hu wills
and Hu punishes

to God belongs the Realm

now there has come to you

there are people in it

we will not enter it

but two men
of those that were afraid
but whom God had blessed
said
"Go in against them
through the gate

we will never enter it
as long as they are in it

and he was filled with regret
so We wrote
for the Tribe of Israel
that whoever kills someone
not to pay them back
for someone they killed
or for spreading sickness
in the land
it will be as though
they had killed
all of humankind
and whoever
gives life to someone
it will be as though
they had given life to
all of humankind
Our Messengers
have already come to them
with the Clear Signs
but many of them after that
went far beyond the limits
in the land
this is the reward
for those who fight against
God and Hu's Messenger
and hurry about the earth
to spread sickness there
they shall be killed
or hung on a cross
or their hands and feet
shall be cut off
or they will be banished
from the land
that is a shaming for them
in this world
and in the world to come
there is waiting for them
a mighty punishment
except for those who
ask God for forgiveness
before you have
power over them
so know that
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
you who believe
be Mindful of God
and look for the way
to come to Hu
and struggle in Hu's Way
hopefully
you will prosper
those who are
ungrateful
if they owned
all that is in the earth
and as much again with it
to ransom themselves
from the punishment
of the Day of Rising
it would not be
accepted from them
for them is waiting
a painful punishment
they will want
to come out
from the Fire
but they will not
come out from it
for them is waiting
an everlasting punishment
and as for the thief
male and female
cut off the hands of both
as a reward
for what they have done
and an example
of a punishment
from God
God is
All-Powerful
All-Wise
but whoever is sorry
after doing wrong
and makes up for it
God will turn
towards them
God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
do you not know
that to God belongs
the Realm of
the heavens and the earth?
Hu punishes
whoever Hu wills
and forgives
whoever Hu wills
and God is
powerful
over everything

do not let them upset you
those that compete
with each other
as to who can be
more ungrateful
those who say
with their mouths
"We believe"
but their hearts
do not believe
and the Jews
who listen to lies
listen to other people
who have not come to you
twisting words
from their meanings
saying
"If you are given this
take it
if you are not given this
beware"
whoever God wants to test
you cannot help them
with God
in any way
those are the ones
whose hearts
God did not want
to make pure
for them is shame in this world
and in the world to come
there waits for them
a mighty punishment
whoever listens to lies
and eats
what is not allowed
if they come to you
judge between them
or turn away from them
if you turn away from them
they will not hurt you
in any way
and if you judge
then judge honestly
between them
God loves the just
yet how will they make you
their judge
when they have the Torah
in which is God's judgement
then after that
turn their backs
they are not believers
We sent down the Torah
in which is
a guide and a light
by which the Messengers
who had
given themselves to God
gave judgement
for the Jews
as did their scholars
and their rabbis
following the part of
God's Book
they were given to keep
and were witness to it
so do not be
afraid of other people
but be afraid of Me
and do not sell My Signs
for a little price
whoever does not judge
by what God has sent down
they are the ungrateful
and in it
We wrote for them
"A life for a life
an eye for an eye
a nose for a nose
an ear for an ear
a tooth for a tooth
and for wounds
equal in return"
but whoever forgives it
in charity
it will make up for
their own bad deeds
who does not judge
by what God has sent down
those are the unjust ones
and We sent
following in their footsteps
Jesus son of Mary
making clear the truth
of the Torah before him
and We gave to him
the Gospel
in which is
a guide and a light
making clear the truth
of the Torah before it
as a guide and a warning
for those who are
Mindful of God
so let the
People of the Gospel
judge by
what God has sent down in it
whoever does not judge
by what God has sent down
they are the ones
who act wickedly
and We have
sent down to you
the Book
with the truth
making clear the truth
of the Book
that was before it
and preserving it
so judge between them
by what God has sent down
and do not follow
their wishes
giving up the truth
that has come to you
to every one of you
We have given
a right way
and an open road
if God had willed
Hu would have made you
one people
but Hu wanted to test you
with what has come to you
so compete in good deeds
to God you will return
all together
and Hu
will tell you about
what you disagreed on
and judge between them
by what God has sent down
and do not follow
their wishes
and beware of them
in case they
tempt you away from
any of what
God has sent down to you
but if they turn their backs
know that God only wishes
to punish them
for some bad deed
they have done
surely
many of humankind
like to act wickedly
or do they look for
the judgement of
the Time of Ignorance?
but who is fairer
in judgement
than God
for those who are certain?
you who believe
do not take
Jews and Christians
as friends
they are friends
of each other
whoever of you
makes friends with them
is one of them
God does not guide
people who do wrong
but you see those
in whose hearts is sickness
compete with one another
to come to them
saying
"We are afraid that
luck will turn against us"
but it may be that God
will bring victory
or some command from Hu
and then they will feel
shame and sorrow
that they carried that secret
inside them
and the believers will say
"Are these the ones
who swore by God
solemn promises
that they were with you?"
their works have failed
now they are losers
you who believe
whoever from you
turns from
their given Way of Life
soon God will surely bring
people Hu loves
and who love Hu
humble
before the believers
ignoring the ones
who are ungrateful
those who struggle
in the Way of God
and do not fear
the blame of any blamer
that is God's bounty
Hu gives it to
whoever Hu wills
and God is
All-Embracing
All-Knowing
your friend is only
God
and Hu's Messenger
and the believers
who make Sala
and pay Zaka
and bow down
whoever makes God
their friend
and Hu's Messenger
and the believers
those who side with God
they are the winners
you who believe
do not take as friends
from those
who were given the Book
before you
those of them
who are ungrateful
who make fun of
your Way of Life
and make a game of it
and be
Mindful of God
if you are believers
and when you call to Sala
they make fun of it
and make a game of it
that is because
they are a people
with no understanding
say
"People of the Book
do you blame us
for anything
other than that
we believe in God
and what has been
sent down to us
and what was
sent down before
and truly
most of you act wickedly"
say
"Shall I tell you
of a repayment from God
worse than that?
whoever God has rejected
and with whom Hu is angry
turning some into
monkeys and pigs
and those who
worship idols
they are in
a worse place
and have wandered
far from
the right way"
when they come to you
they say
"We believe"
but they came in
ungrateful
and they left
the same way
God knows very well
what they were hiding
you see many of them
competing in bad deeds
and making enemies
and eating
what is not allowed
what they have been doing
is wicked
why do the scholars
and the rabbis
not forbid them
to say
what is wrong
and to eat
what is not allowed?
what they have been doing
is wicked
the Jews have said
"God's hands are tied"
their hands are tied
and they are rejected
for what they have said
no
Hu's hands are open wide

many of them
more beyond the bounds

they would have eaten
what was above them
and what was
beneath their feet
some of them
are honest people
but many of them
do evil things
Messenger
deliver what has been
sent down to you
from your Liege
for if you do not
you will not have delivered
Hu's Message
God will protect you
from people
God does not guide
those who are
ungrateful
say
"People of the Book
you do not have
anything to stand on
until you follow
the Torah and the Gospel
and what was
sent down to you
from your Liege"
and what has been
sent down to you
from your Liege
will surely make
many of them
more beyond the bounds
and more ungrateful
so do not feel sorry for
those who are ungrateful
surely
those who believe
and those who are Jews
and the Sabaeans
and Christians
whoever believes
in God and the Last Day
and does good
they shall not be afraid
or feel sorrow
and We made
an agreement
with the Tribe of Israel
and We sent
Messengers to them
and whenever a Messenger
came to them
with what they did not
want for themselves
some they called liars
and some they killed
and they thought
there would be no trial
but they were
blind and deaf
then God turned
towards them
and again
many of them
were blind and deaf
and God sees
the things they do
they are the ungrateful ones
who say
"God is the Messiah
Mary's son"
for the Messiah said
"Tribe of Israel
serve God
my Liege and your Liege"
truly whoever
sets up partners
with God
God will prohibit them
from entry into Paradise
and their shelter will be
the Fire
and those who do wrong
shall have no helpers
they are the ungrateful ones
who say
"God is the third of three"
there is no god
except
One God
if they do not stop
what they are saying
those that are ungrateful
will be hurt by
a painful punishment
will they not turn to God
and beg for
Hu's forgiveness?
God is
Most-Forgiving

see how We make clear
the Signs to people
then see how
they are misled
say
"Do you serve

hurt or help you?"

the All-Hearing

"People of the Book
do not go beyond the limits
in your Way of Life
saying other than the truth
and do not follow
the wishes of a people
who took the wrong way
before
and led many
to take the wrong way
and now again
have gone astray
from the right way"
those of the Tribe of Israel
who were ungrateful
were rejected
by the words of David
and Jesus son of Mary
because they disobeyed
and went beyond the limits
they did not
forbid each other
any of the wrong things
that they did
you see many of them
turning away
to be friends
with those who are
ungrateful
miserable is what they
save up for themselves
so God is
made angry against them
and in punishment
they shall live forever
but if they had believed in
God and the Newsbringer
and what has been
sent down to him
they would not have
taken them as friends
but many of them
are the ones who
act wickedly
you will find
the most fierce enemies
to the believers
to be the Jews
and the idol worshippers
and you will find
the nearest in love
to the believers
are those who say
"We are Christians"
because
some of them
are priests and monks
they are not proud
and when they hear
what has been sent down
to the Messenger
you see their eyes
filling with tears
because of the truth
they recognise
they say
"Our Liege
we believe
so write us down
among the witnesses
why should we not
believe in God
and the truth
that has come to us
and be eager
that our Liege
should let us in
to be with
those who do good?"
and God rewards them
for what they say
with gardens
beneath which rivers flow
to live there forever
that is the reward
for those who do good
but those who were
ungrateful
and called Our Signs lies
they will be
the companions of Hellfire
you who believe
do not forbid
the good things
God has allowed you
and do not go
beyond the limits
God does not love
those who go
beyond the limits
eat of
what God has
provided for you
lawful and good
and be
Mindful of God
in Hu you believe
God will not
take you to task
for promises
that slip into
idle talk
but Hu will
take you to task
for breaking agreements
you have made
with a solemn promise
and to make amends
you must feed
ten poor people
with the average
of what you feed
to your families
or clothe them
or set free a slave
or if anyone does not
have enough for that
let them fast
for three days
that is to
make amends
for your
breaking agreements
when you have promised
but keep your promises
in that way
God makes clear to you
Hu's Signs
hopefully
you will be
thankful
you who believe
wine
and gambling on chance
and false gods
and predicting the future
are the filthy acts
of Satan's work
so avoid them
and hopefully
you will be successful
Satan only wants
to turn you into enemies
and stir up
hate between you
when it comes to wine
and gambling on chance
and to keep you from
remembering God
and from Sala
will you not stop?
and obey God
and obey the Messenger
and beware
but if you turn your backs
then know that

beyond the limits

wild animals
when you are in
the holy state of pilgrim
whoever kills them
on purpose
shall have
about as much
as they have killed
taken in return
from their flocks
that to be judged
by two equals
among you
an offering
to be made at
Kaaba
or make amends
with food for
poor people
or fasting
equal to it
so they may taste
how bad
was what they did
God has forgiven
what is past
but whoever
does it again
God will take
revenge on them
God is
All-Powerful
the Taker-of-Revenge
you are allowed
all the creatures
in the sea
and the food
from it
to provide for you
and for those
who journey
but you are not allowed
wild creatures
of the land
as long as you are in
the holy state of pilgrim
and be
Mindful of God
to Hu
you shall be gathered
God
has made
the Kaaba
the Holy House
and kept it for
humankind
and the holy month
and the offering
and the garlands
so you might know
that God knows
all that is in
the heavens and the earth
and that God knows
everything
know that God is
terrible in punishment
and God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
the Messenger
only has to
deliver the Message
and God knows
what you show
and what you hide
say
"What is bad
and what is good
are not equal
though much of
what is bad
pleases you
so be
Mindful of God
you who
understand
and hopefully
you will be
successful"
you who believe
do not ask
questions about things
which
if they were told to you
would make you angry
but if you ask
questions about them
when the Reading
is being sent down
they will be told to you
God has
wiped those things away
for God is
Most-Forgiving
the Gentle
a people
before you
asked questions
about them
and became
ungrateful
by it
God has not wanted
cattle
offered to idols
such as
Bahira
Sa'iba
Wasila
Hami
but those who are
ungrateful
tell lies against God
and most of them
have no
understanding
and when it is said to them
"Come now
to what
God has sent down
and the Messenger"
they say
"It is enough for us to do
what we found
our parents doing"
what?
even if their parents
knew nothing
and were not guided?
you who believe
look after
your own souls
the one who has taken
the wrong way
cannot hurt you
if you are
rightly guided
to God will you return
all together
and Hu will tell you
what you were doing
you who believe
when one of you is
near to death
and makes a will
take as witnesses
two honest people
from among you
or two from
another people
if you are travelling
and death
comes upon you
keep them back
after Sala
and they shall
promise before God
if you have doubt
"We will not sell it
for any price
even though it was
a close relative
we will not hide
what was promised
before God
for then
we would surely be
among the wrong doers"
but if it is discovered
that both of them
have deserved
being accused
of wrong doing
then two others
shall stand in their place
these being the nearest
of those most concerned
and they shall promise
before God
"Our witnessing
is truer
than their witnessing
and we have not gone
beyond the limits
for then
we would surely be
among the unjust"
so it is more likely
that they will
witness
in the proper way
or else they will be afraid
that after their promise
other promises
might be broken
so be
Mindful of God
and listen
God does not guide
the wicked
the day when God
shall gather
the Messengers
and say
"What answer
were you given?"
they shall say
"We do not know
You are the Knower
of unseen things"
when God said
"Jesus son of Mary
remember My blessing
on you and your mother
when I made you stronger
by the Holy Spirit
to speak to people
from the cradle
and when you were grown
and when I taught you
the Book and the Wisdom
the Torah and the Gospel
and when you made
the shape of a bird
out of clay
by My permission
and you breathed into it
and it was a bird
by My permission
and you healed
the blind and the leper
by My permission
and when you
raised the dead
by My permission
and when I kept
the Tribe of Israel
away from you
when you came to them
with the Clear Signs
and those who were
ungrateful
said

"Be Mindful of God

they said
"We want to eat from it
so our hearts
will be at rest
and so we may know
that you have spoken
the truth to us
and that we may be
among its witnesses"
Jesus son of Mary
said
"God our Liege
send down on us
a table out of heaven
to be a feast for us
for the first and the last of us
and as a Sign from You
and provide for us
You are the best of providers"
God said
"Truly I do send it down on you

disbelieves after this
I will punish them
with a punishment
such as I punish

"Jesus son of Mary
did you say to people
'Take me and my mother
as gods apart from God?'"

"Glory be to You
it is not for me to say
what I have no right to
and if I did indeed say it
You know it
knowing what is in my soul

You are the Knower
of unseen things
I only said to them
what You told me to
'Serve God

a witness over them
