God
the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
Alif Lam Ra
those are
the Signs of the Book
and of a Clear Reading
perhaps those that are
ungrateful
will wish that they
were with
those who surrendered
leave them to eat
and enjoy themselves
distracted
by false hope
certainly
they will soon know
and We never
destroyed a city
without it having
a set time
and no community
can bring its time closer
nor can they delay it
they say
"You
to whom
the Reminder
is sent down
you are mad
why do you not
bring Angels to us
if you are telling the truth?"
We do not send down
the Angels
except with the truth
and then
there would be no
putting it off
We sent down
the Reminder
and We will
keep guard over it
indeed We sent
Messengers before you
amongst the
differing peoples
of olden times
and not a single Messenger
came to them
without receiving ridicule
like that
We made it
go into the hearts
of the wicked
they do not believe in it
even though they
have the example of
those peoples
of olden times
even if
We opened up
a gateway
into heaven
for them
and they
rose up through it
still they would say
"Our eyes are seeing things
or more like
we have been put
under a spell"
and We have set
in heaven
constellations
and made them look
beautiful
to those who look
and protected them
from every
rejected Satan
except those that
eavesdrop
who are chased
by a clear flame
and the earth
We stretched it out
and cast on it
firm mountains
and We made
everything grow in it
well balanced
and We provided
ways for you to live
and for those
you do not provide for
there is not a thing
that does not have
its stores with Us
and We only send it down
in a known measure
and We set loose
the winds
that fertilize
and We send down
out of heaven
water
and We give it to you
to drink
and it is not you
that keeps its stores
We give life
We make die
We inherit
We know those of you
who go in advance
and We know those
who linger behind
and your Liege will
gather them together
and Hu is
All-Wise
All-Knowing
We created humans
from a clay
of moulded mud
and before that
We created the jinn
from a fiery wind
when your Liege said
to the Angels
"I am creating
a mortal
from a clay
of mud moulded
when I have shaped it
and breathed My Spirit into it
fall down
and make Sajda before it
then the Angels
made Sajda
all together
except Iblis
who refused to be
with those making Sajda
said Hu
"What is your problem Iblis
that you are not
with those making Sajda?"
it said
"I would never make Sajda
before a mortal
that You have created
from a clay
of mud moulded"
said Hu
"Then go out of here
you are an outcast
to be rejected until
the Day of Reckoning"
it said
"My Liege
give me relief
until the day when
they will be raised"
said Hu
"You are among
those that have relief
until the day
of a time
that is known"
it said
"My Liege
because You have
put me in the wrong
I will make things
on the earth
seem pleasing to them
I will lead
humankind
to take the wrong way
all together
except for
Your servants among them
who are devoted"
said Hu
"This is a straight path
to Me
you will have
no authority
over My servants
only those
that follow you
being misled
Hell will be
their promised place
all together
it has seven gates
and to each gate belongs
a fixed share of them"
but those who are
Mindful of God
will be in the midst of
gardens and fountains
"Enter them
in peace and safety"
We will strip away
all grudges
from their breast
like siblings
resting on couches
face to face
no tiredness will hit them
nor will they ever
have to leave there
tell My servants
I am
the Most-Forgiving
the Ever-Merciful
and that My punishment
is the painful punishment
and tell them of
the guests of Abraham
when they entered
upon him
saying
"Peace"
he said
"We are afraid of you"
they said
"Do not be afraid
we bring you good news
of a boy child
who will have
great knowledge"
he said
"Do you give me
the good news
even though
old age has hit me?
what kind of good news
do you bring me?"
they said
"We bring you
good news of truth
do not be among
those that give up hope"
he said
"Who gives up hope
for the mercy of
their Liege
except those who
take the wrong way?"
he said
"And what is your business
for you to have been sent?"
they said
"We have been sent
to a wicked people
except the people of Lot
we shall save them
all together
except his wife
we have said that
she will surely be
one of those
who stay behind"
so when
those that were sent
came to
the people of Lot
he said
"You are people
I do not know"
they said
"No
but we have brought you
what they thought
would never happen
we have come to you
with the truth
and certainly
we tell the truth
so set out
you and your family
in the dead of night
and follow behind
with them in front of you
and do not let anyone
look back
and leave for the place
you have been
ordered to go"
and We made
that order known to him
that the last of
those that remained
would be cut off
in the morning
and the people of the city
came revelling
he said
"These are my guests
do not shame me
and be
Mindful of God
and do not disgrace me"
they said
"Did we not forbid you
to stand between
us and others?"
he said
"These are my daughters
if you must"
by your life
they were wandering
blind drunk
and the Cry seized them
at break of day
and We turned it
upside down
and rained on it
stones of baked clay
surely in that
are Signs
for those who can learn
surely it is on a way
that still remains
surely in that
is a Sign
for those who believe
and the companions of
the Woods
were among those
who were unjust
and We took revenge
on them
they were both on
a clear pathway
and those who lived
in Al-Hijr
called the Messengers liars
We brought them
Our Signs
and they turned
away from them
they were carving
the mountains
into houses
living there in safety
and the Cry seized them
at break of day
and what they had earned
did not help them
We did not create
the heavens and the earth
and all that is between them
except with the truth
surely the Hour is coming
so forgive
with well mannered forgiving
surely your Liege is
the All-Creator
the All-Knowing
We have given you
the seven
often repeated
and the Honoured Reading
do not look longingly
at what We have given
pairs of them to enjoy
and do not
feel sad about them
and take those who believe
under your wing
and say
"Surely I am a clear warner"
so We sent it down
to those who
break things apart
who have broken
the Reading
into little pieces
now by your Liege
We will surely
question them
all together
concerning
what they were doing
so speak out loud
what you are ordered
and turn away
from those who
worship idols
We are enough for you
against those
who mock you
those who set up
another god with God
certainly
they will soon know
We know that
your breast is troubled
by the things they say
so celebrate the glory
of your Liege
and be of those
who make Sajda
and serve your Liege
until what is certain
comes to you
