the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
a Sura
that We have sent down
and put upon you
and We have
sent down in it
Signs
Clear Signs
so hopefully you will
remember
and both women and men
who break
marriage commitments
strike
each of them
a hundred strokes
let no
tenderness
for them
take hold of you
in what concerns
God's Way of Life
if you believe in
God and the Last Day
and to witness
their punishment
a number of
believers
the unfaithful male
will marry no one
that is not
an unfaithful female
or one that worships idols
and the unfaithful female
will marry no one
that is not
an unfaithful male
or one that worships idols
which is not allowed
for believers
and those who
accuse
faithful women
and do not bring
four witnesses
strike them
with eighty strokes
and do not accept them
as witnesses
ever again
those
they are
the wicked
except for those
who turn around
asking for forgiveness
after that
putting things right
surely God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
and those who
accuse
their partners
with no witnesses
apart from themselves
the witnessing
of the one
is to give
witness before God
four times
that they are
telling the truth
and a fifth time
that God's curse
will be on them
if they are
liars
but it will take away
the punishment
from them
if they give
witness before God
four times
that the other
is the liar
and a fifth time
that God's curse
will be on them
if the other is
telling the truth
if not for
God's favour to you
and Hu's mercy
surely God is
the Accepter-of-Sorrow
All-Wise
those of you
in the group
who came with
the lying accusation
do not imagine
it is bad for you
rather
it is good for you
each one of them
shall have
the evil they have earned
and whoever
took it on themselves
to make the rumour
stronger
for them is waiting
a mighty punishment
why
when you heard it
did men and women
believers
not come up with
better thoughts
for themselves
and say
"This is
obviously
a lie"?
why did they not bring
four witnesses to it?
since they did not
bring witnesses
in God's sight
they are liars
if not for
God's favour to you
and Hu's mercy
in this world
and the world to come
your gossip
would have brought down
on you
a mighty punishment
when you rolled it
on your tongues
and spoke it
with your mouths
something about which
you had no knowledge
and thought it was
a trivial thing
and with God
it was
a very serious thing
why
when you heard it
did you not say
"It is not for us
to speak about this
glory be to You
this is
a dreadful lie"?
God warns you
never to do
the like of it
again
if you are
believers
God
makes the Signs
clear to you
and God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
people that love to see
filth spread
about the believers
will face
a painful punishment
in this world
and the world to come
and God knows
but you do not know
if not for
God's favour to you
and Hu's mercy
and God is
Forgiving-by-Nature
Ever-Merciful
you who believe
do not follow
in the footsteps of Satan
for whoever follows
in the footsteps of Satan
it urges them
to have no shame
or honour
if not for
God's favour to you
and Hu's mercy
not one of you
would have been
made pure
ever
but God makes pure
whoever Hu wills
and God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
those of you
who have been blessed
with wealth and plenty
should not
make promises
that they will give nothing
to their family
and the poor
and those who made Hijra
in God's Way
but let them pardon
and forgive
do you not wish
that God will
forgive you?
and God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
Surely
those who accuse
faithful women
who pay no mind
but still believe
will be cursed
in this world and the next
and they will have
a terrible punishment
on the day when
their tongues
their hands
and their feet
will bear witness
against them
about what they were doing
on that day
God will pay them in full
whatever is due to them
and they will know
that God is
clearly the Truth
wicked women
for wicked men
and wicked men
for wicked women
good women
for good men
and good men
for good women
and these are innocent
of what they say
they shall have
forgiveness
and a generous providing
you who believe
do not enter houses
other than your own houses
until you first
ask permission
and call out a greeting
to the people there
that is better for you
hopefully you will remember
and if you do not
find anyone there
do not enter
until you are given
permission
and if you are told
"Come back later"
return later
that is more
pure for you
and God knows
the things you do
there is nothing wrong
in you entering houses
where no one lives
which serve
some purpose for you
and God knows
what you do openly
and also what you hide
say to those who believe
that they should
lower their eyes
and guard their modesty
that is more
pure for them
God is aware
of what they do
and say to those
women who believe
that they should
lower their eyes
and guard their modesty
and not display
what makes them beautiful
except what normally shows
and let them draw
their shawls
over their breasts
and not reveal their beauty
except to their husbands
or their fathers
or their husbands' fathers
or their sons
or their husbands' sons
or their brothers
or their brothers' sons
or their sisters' sons
or other women
or those they own
or those men who
attend to them
having no desire
or children who are
not yet aware of
what women keep private
and they should not
stamp their feet
so what is hidden
may be known
and turn to God
all together
believers
and hopefully
you will have success
marry
those who are single
from amongst yourselves
those you own
and those who attend you
if they are good people
if they are poor
God will enrich them
from Hu's giving
God is
All-Embracing
All-Knowing
and let those
who do not have
enough to marry
hold back until
God enriches them
from Hu's giving
and those you own
who want
a contract of freedom
write it for them
if you know of
good in them
and give them
from God's wealth
that Hu has given you
and do not force
those you own
to sell their bodies
when they want
to keep their virtue
all for no more than
gaining the attractions
of this world
to whoever faces them
and yet holds back
surely God
after they held back
is Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
now We have
sent down to you
Clear Signs
and the example
of those
who passed away
before you
and advice
for those who are
Mindful of God
God is the Light
of the heavens
and the earth
the likeness of
Hu's Light
is a niche
in which is a lamp
the lamp in a glass
the glass as if
from a glittering star
light from a blessed tree
an olive
that is neither from
the East or West
like oil that shines
even if
not touched by fire
Light upon Light
and God guides
to Hu's Light
whoever Hu wills
and God
draws likenesses
for humankind
and God knows
everything
in houses
God
has allowed to be built
and Hu's Name
to be remembered in them
celebrating Hu's glory
in the mornings
and evenings
there are some
who are not
distracted
by trade or business
from remembering
God
they stand for Sala
they pay Zaka
and fear a day
when hearts and eyes
shall be turned about
so God may
repay them
for the best
of what they did
and give them
yet more of
Hu's favour
and God provides
to whoever Hu wills
without reckoning
as for those who are
ungrateful
their works are like
a mirage
in a desert plain
which the thirsty
imagine to be water
until
when they come to it
they find it is nothing
but find God is with them
and Hu pays their account
in full
and God is quick
at reckoning
or they are like
shadows
in a deep dark sea
covered by
wave upon wave
above which are clouds
shadows
piled one upon another
if they put out a hand
they can barely see it
and whoever
God gives no light
has no light at all
do you not see
how whatever is in
the heavens and the earth
praises God
the birds
spreading their wings?
each one knows
their prayer
and praising
and God knows
what they do
to God belongs
the Realm
of the heavens
and the earth
and to Hu
is the coming home
do you not see
how God moves the clouds
and pushes them together
and heaps them up
then you see the rain
pouring out of
the middle of them?
and Hu sends down hail
from mountains in the sky
and Hu strikes with it
whoever Hu wills
and turns it aside from
whoever Hu wills
and the flash
of Hu's lightning
almost snatches away sight
God turns about
the day and the night
surely in that is a lesson
for those who can see
God created
every beast
from water
and some of them
go on their bellies
and some of them
go on two feet
and some of them
go on four
God creates
whatever Hu wills
God is powerful
over everything
We have sent down
Clear Signs
God guides
whoever Hu wills
to a straight path
they say
"We believe in God
and the Messenger
and we obey"
then after that
a group of them
turn away
they are not believers
when they are called
to God
and Hu's Messenger
so he may judge
between them
some of them turn away
but if right was on their side
they would come willingly
is there sickness
in their hearts
or do they fear
that God may be
unjust towards them
and Hu's Messenger?
no
they are the ones
who do evil
all that the believers say
when they are called
to God and Hu's Messenger
so that he may
judge between them
is that they say
"We hear and obey"
they are the ones who are
successful
whoever obeys
God and Hu's Messenger
and fears God
and is
Mindful of God
those are
the ones who
triumph
they have sworn by God
their most serious promises
that if you
order them to
they will go with you
say
"Do not swear
it is enough
to obey with honour
surely God is aware
of what you do"
say
"Obey God
and obey the Messenger"
then if you turn away
on him rests only
the duty that is put on him
and on you rests
the duty that is put on you
if you obey him
you will be guided
the Messenger
only needs to deliver
the clear Message
God has promised
those of you
who are believers
and do good deeds
that Hu will surely
make you receive the land
from those before you
in the way that
they received it
and that Hu will surely
show to them
the Way of Life
Hu approves for them
and will give them
in exchange
after their fear
safety
they shall serve Me
and not partner
any other with Me
whoever
does not believe
after that
is of the wicked
so make Sala
and pay Zaka
and obey the Messenger
so that hopefully
you will find mercy
do not think
that those who are
ungrateful
can escape God
on the earth
their shelter is the Fire
an evil homecoming
you who believe
let those you own
and children among you
who have not come of age
call for permission to enter
at three times
before the Fajr Sala
when you
take off your clothes
at mid-day
and after Isha Sala
three times of
nakedness for you
there is no blame
in you or them
apart from these times
that you go about
one to another
so God makes clear to you
Hu's Signs
and God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
when your children
come of age
let them ask for
permission
as those before them
ask permission
so God makes clear
Hu's Signs
and God is
All-Knowing
All-Wise
and as for women
past the age of
having children
with no hope
for marriage
there is no blame for them
if they take off their clothes
if they are not showing off
their beauty
but not to do so
is better for them
and God is
All-Hearing
All-Knowing
there is no fault
in the blind
and there is no fault
in the lame
and there is no fault
in the sick
nor in yourselves
if you eat in
your own houses
or your father's houses
or your mother's houses
or your brother's houses
or your sister's houses
or in the houses of
your father's
brother or sister
or your mother's
brother or sister
or any places
for which you
own the keys
or the houses of
your friends
there is no fault
if you eat all together
or in separate groups
but when you enter houses
greet one another
with a greeting from God
blessed and good
so God makes clear to you
the Signs
hopefully you will
understand
the ones who believe
are only those
who believe in God
and Hu's Messenger
who
when they are with him
on a matter
of shared interest
do not go away without
asking his permission
for those who
ask your permission
to attend to
their own affairs
give permission
to whoever you will
from them
and ask for
God's forgiveness
for them
surely God is
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful
do not think that if
the Messenger
wants to see you
that is like you wanting
to see each other
God knows those of you
who sneak away
so let those
who go against
Hu's command
beware
in case a trial
befall them
or there befall them
a painful punishment
to God belongs
whatever is in
the heavens and the earth
Hu knows
what state you are in
and on the day
that they shall be
returned to Hu
Hu will tell them
what they did
and God knows
everything
