By the Name
God
the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
Alif Lam Mim
those are the Signs
of the Wise Book
a guide
and a mercy
to those who do good
who make the Sala
and pay the Zaka
and believe in
the world to come
those are guided
by their Liege
those are
the successful
there are some
who will pay for
amusing tales
that lead astray
from the Way of God
with no knowledge
and make fun of it
for them there is waiting
a shameful punishment
and when Our Signs
are spoken to such people
they turn away
full of pride
as though they
did not hear them
and a great weight
was in their ears
so give them the good news
of a painful punishment
surely
those who believe
and do what is right
have waiting for them
Gardens of Delight
to live in them forever
God's promise
in truth
and Hu is
the All-Powerful
the Wise
Hu created the heavens
with no pillars you can see
and Hu put on the earth
firm mountains
so it does not
shake beneath you
and Hu scattered over it
all kinds of crawling things
and We sent down
out of heaven
water
and made grow in it
everything that is generous
that is God's creation
now show what
those apart from Hu
have created
no
those that do evil
have clearly lost their way
indeed
We gave Luqman wisdom
"Give thanks to God
whoever gives thanks
only gives thanks
for their own soul's good
and whoever is
ungrateful
surely God is
Rich-beyond-Need
Most-Praiseworthy"
and when Luqman
gave his child advice
saying
"O my child
do not set up other gods
as partners with God
to give partners to God
is a great wrong"
and We have told humans
how to treat their parents
their mothers carried them
in weakness upon weakness
and fed them at the breast
for two years
give thanks to Me
and to your parents
to Me you come home
but if they struggle with you
to make you set up
partners with Me
about which
you have no knowledge
then do not obey them
keep honourable company
with them in this world
but follow the Way
of the one who turns to Me
then to Me you shall return
and I will tell you
what you were doing
"O my child
if it is only the weight of
one grain of mustard seed
and whether it be in a rock
or in the heavens
or in the earth
God will bring it out
and God is
Subtle
All-Aware
O my child
make the Sala
and tell people
to do what is right
and forbid what is wrong
and suffer patiently
whatever happens to you
surely that is
faith that lasts
do not turn your face
away from people
with a sneer
and do not
walk on the earth
with pride
God does not love
those who are
proud and boasting
be modest in your walk
and lower your voice
the most hideous of voices
is the braying of an ass"
have you not seen
how God
has made useful to you
whatever is in
the heavens and the earth
and Hu has
showered you with blessings
outside and inside you?
and among people
there are those
that argue about God
with no knowledge
no guide
and no Book
to light their way
and when it is said to them
"Follow
what God has sent down"
they say
"No
we will follow the things
we found our families doing"
what
even though
Satan were calling them
to the punishment
of the burning?
and whoever
surrenders themselves
to God
and does good
has taken hold of
the most firm handle
and with God
is the result
of everything that happens
and whoever is
ungrateful
do not let
their being ungrateful
make you sad
they will return to Us
and We shall tell them
what they did
surely God knows
all the thoughts
within the breast
to them
We give enjoyment
a little
then We force them
into a harsh punishment
if you ask them
"Who created
the heavens and the earth?"
they will say
"God"
say
"Grateful praise
belongs to God"
but most of them
do not know
to God belongs
all that is in
the heavens and the earth
God
Hu is
the Rich-beyond-Need
the Most-Praiseworthy
though all the trees
in the earth were pens
and for ink the sea
and seven seas after it
still the words of God
would not run dry
God is
All-Powerful
Wise
your creation
and your rising again
are as one single soul
God is
All-Hearing
All-Seeing
have you not seen
how God makes the night
enter into the day
and makes the day
enter into the night
and Hu has made
the sun and moon
to serve you
each of them running
to a time decided
and God is aware
of what you do?
that is because God
Hu is the Truth
and what they call to
apart from Hu
is false
and because God is
the Highest
the All-Great
have you not seen
how the ships
run on the sea
by the blessing of God
so Hu may show you
some of Hu's Signs?
surely in that are Signs
for everyone who is
patient and thankful
and when the waves
hang over them
like shadows
they call to God
making their Way of Life
Hu's Way
with the best of intentions
but when Hu
has brought them
safely back to land
some of them
are in two minds
and no-one
rejects Our Signs
except an
ungrateful traitor
humankind
be Mindful of God
your Liege
and fear the day
when no parent will be able
to pay for the deeds
of their child
and no child will be able
to pay for the deeds
of a parent
surely
God's promise
is true
so do not let the present life
deceive you
and do not let
the Deceiver
deceive you about God
God
Hu has knowledge of
the Hour
Hu sends down the rain
Hu knows
what is in the wombs
no soul knows
what it will earn
tomorrow
and no soul knows
in what land it will die
surely
God is
All-Knowing
All-Aware
