the Ever-Merciful
Saad
by the Reading
holding the Reminder
those who are
ungrateful
are full of pride
in what sets them apart
how many generations
We destroyed
before them
and they cried out
but it was too late to escape
now they are amazed
that a warner
has come to them
from among themselves
and those who are
ungrateful
say
"This is a lying sorcerer
has he made the gods
One God?
that really is
an amazing thing"
and their leaders went away
saying
"Go
stay patient with your gods
this is what you must do
we have not heard of this
in the old religion
this is surely an invention
has the Reminder
been sent down
to him
out of all of us?"
they doubt
My Reminder
they have yet to taste
My punishment
or do they own
the treasure houses
of the mercy
of your Liege
the All-Powerful
the Giver?
or do they reign over
the heavens and the earth
and what is between them?
then let them climb up
ropes between them
an army of different forces
will be crushed there
others called it lies
before them
the people of Noah
and Ad and Pharaoh
fixed like tent-pegs
and Thamood
and the people of Lot
and the companions of
the Woods
those were the groups
there was not one
that did not call out
to the Messengers
calling them liars
so My punishment was just
they are only waiting
for a single Cry
that cannot be delayed
they say
"Our Liege
let us have our share quickly
before the Day of Reckoning"
be patient
with what they say
and remember
Our servant David
a man of true strength
he asked to be forgiven
We made the mountains
give glory with him
at evening and sunrise
and the birds
flocking together
all turned to him
and We made his realm
stronger
and gave him wisdom
and a sure way of speaking
has the news of
the argument
reached you?
when they climbed up into
the private rooms
when they went in
to see David
he was frightened by them
and they said
"Do not be afraid
we have different opinions
and one of us
has injured the other
so judge between us fairly
do not be unjust
and guide us
to the right path
you see
this is my brother
and he has ninety-nine ewes
and I have only one ewe
so he said
'Let me take charge of her'
and he got the better of me
in the argument"
he said
"surely he has wronged you
in asking for your ewe
to add to his own
and many partners
treat each other unfairly
except those who believe
and do good deeds
and how few they are"
and David thought
that We had been
testing him
and asked for forgiveness
from his Liege
and he fell down
bowing
and begged forgiveness
so We forgave him
and he has a place
near to Us
a good place
to come home to
"David
We have put you
in Our place
on the earth
so judge between people
with truth
and do not
follow your urges
in case they lead you
astray from the Way of God
surely there is waiting
for those who go astray
from the Way of God
a terrible punishment
because
they have forgotten
the Day of Reckoning"
We have not created
the heavens and the earth
and what is between them
for no purpose
that is how
those who are
ungrateful
think
so woe to those who are
ungrateful
because of the Fire
or shall We make
those who believe
and do good deeds
like those who
spread sickness
in the earth
or shall We make
those who are
Mindful of God
be those doing wrong?
it is a Book
We have sent down to you
blessed
so those with minds
can think about its Signs
and that way remember
and We gave to David
Solomon
how excellent
a servant
he was
he asked to be forgiven
and when
in the evening
fine horses
were shown to him
he said
"I have made
the love of good things
more important
than remembering my Liege
until the sun
was hidden behind the veil
bring them back to me"
and he stroked
their sides and necks
and We tested Solomon
and We put upon his throne
a lifeless body
and he asked to be forgiven
he said
"My Liege
forgive me
and give me a kingdom
like no one else
will ever have after me
surely You are
the All-Giver"
so We gave him power
over the wind
which blew gently
at his command
wherever he wanted
and the Satans
every builder
and diver
and others also
chained together
"This is Our gift
so give it or keep it
without reckoning"
and he has a place
near to Us
a good place
to come home to
and remember Our servant
Job
when he called to his Liege
"See how
Satan has come to me
with weariness and suffering"
"Stamp your foot
here is cool water
for you to wash in
and drink"
and We gave him back
his family
and as many again
with them
as a mercy from Us
and a Reminder
to those who understand
"Take in your hand
a bundle of rushes
and hit with that
and do not
break your promise"
surely We found him
a patient man
how excellent a servant
he asked to be forgiven
and remember our servants
Abraham
Isaac and Jacob
men of true strength
and vision
and We made them pure
with a fine purity
remembering
the final home
and in Our sight
they are among
the best of those chosen
and remember Ishmael
Elisha and Dhul Kifl
each is among
the best
this is a Reminder
for those who are
Mindful of God
the finest of homes
to return to
Gardens of Eden
the gates open to them
where they lie at ease
and call for
all kinds of fruits
and sweet drinks
and with them partners
of equal age
modest
patiently waiting
this is
what you were promised
for the Day of Reckoning
this is
Our providing
of which there is no end
all this
but for those who rebel
there is waiting
an evil home to return to
Hellfire
in which they are roasted
what an evil resting place
all this
so let them taste it
boiling water and pus
joined with
other such torments
all this
a crowd rushing in with you
there is no welcome for them
they will roast in the Fire
they say
"No
it is you have no welcome
it is you brought it upon us
what an evil place to stay"
they say
"Our Liege
whoever brought this upon us
give them
double punishment
in the Fire"
they say
"How is it that
we do not see people here
that we used to think
were the worst of people
and we turned them into
figures of fun?
have our eyes missed them?"
that is true
the arguing
of the people of
the Fire
say
"I am only a warner
there is no god but God
the One
the Irresistible
Liege
of the heavens and the earth
and what is between them
the All-Powerful
the Most-Forgiving"
say
"This message is
a mighty one
from which
you are turning away
I have no knowledge
of what those on high discuss
it is revealed to me
only that I am
a clear warner"
when your Liege
said to the Angels
"I am creating a mortal
out of clay
when I have shaped them
and breathed My spirit
into them
fall down
in Sajda to them"
then the Angels
made Sajda
all together
except Iblis
who grew proud
and was one of
those who were
ungrateful
said Hu
"Iblis
what stopped you
from making Sajda
before what I created
with My own hands?
have you grown proud?
are you
too high and mighty?"
it said
"I am better than them
You made me of fire
and you made them of clay"
said Hu
"Get out from here
you are cursed
My curse will rest upon you
until the Day of Reckoning"
it said
"My Liege
give me a reprieve until
the day they are raised"
said Hu
"You are reprieved
until the day
the time that is known"
it said
"Now
by Your glory
I will turn them
to the wrong way
all together
except those of
Your servants among them
who are honest and true"
said Hu
"This is the truth
the truth I speak
I will surely fill Hellfire
with you
and with
whoever of them
follows you
all together"
say
"I do not ask for
a wage for it
nor do I say I am
what I am not
it is nothing but
a Reminder
to all beings
and you will know
the news for sure
after a while"
