the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
Ha Mim
a sending down from
the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
a Book whose Signs
have been made clear
as an Arabic Reading
for people who
have knowledge
bringing good news
and a warning
but most have turned away
and do not listen
they say
"Our hearts are covered
against what you call us to
and there is a heaviness
in our ears
and between us and you
there is a veil
so do what you want
and so shall we"
say
"I am only a mortal like you
it has been revealed to me
that your God is One God
so go straight to Hu
and ask for
Hu's forgiving
and woe to those who
put partner-gods
alongside Hu
those who do not
pay the Zaka
and do not believe
in the world to come
surely
those who believe
and do good deeds
shall have a reward
that never fails"
say
"What
are you ungrateful to Hu
Hu created the earth
in two days
and do you make other gods
equal to Hu
the Liege of
all the worlds?"
and Hu set in it
firm mountains
high over it
and Hu blessed it
and in four days
Hu set in it
all its variety of foods
equal for all who ask
then Hu turned to heaven
when it was smoke
and said to it
and to the earth
"Come willingly
or unwillingly"
they said
"We come willingly"
so Hu formed them
as seven heavens
in two days
and revealed its order
in every heaven
and We decorated
the lower heaven
with lamps
and preserve it
that is the order of
the All-Powerful
the All-Knowing
but if they turn away
then say
"I warn you of
a thunderbolt
like the thunderbolt
of Ad and Thamood"
when the Messengers
came to them
from in front of them
and from behind them
saying
"Serve no-one but God"
they said
"If our Liege had wished
surely Hu would have
sent down Angels
so we do not believe
in the Message
you were sent with"
as for Ad
they grew proud
in the earth
with no right
and they said
"Who is stronger
than we are
in might?"
did they not see that God
Hu created them
was stronger
than them
in might?
but they rejected Our Signs
then We set loose upon them
a howling wind
for days of disaster
so We could let them taste
shameful punishment
in the present life
and the punishment
of the world to come
is even more shameful
and they will not be helped
as for Thamood
We guided them
but they preferred
being blind
to being guided
so the thunderbolt of
the punishment
of shame
seized them
for what they had earned
and We rescued
those who believed
and were
Mindful of God
on the day when
God's enemies
are driven to the Fire
in crowded ranks
when they come to it
their hearing
their eyes and their skins
bear witness against them
about what
they have been doing
and they will say to their skins
"Why did you
bear witness against us?"
they shall say
"God gave us speech
as Hu gave
everything speech
Hu created you the first time
and to Hu
you will be returned
you did not think
to shield yourselves
so your hearing
your eyes and your skin
would not
bear witness against you
you thought that God
would never know much
about the things that
you were doing
it is that way of thinking
about your Liege
that has destroyed you
and so this morning
you find yourselves
among the losers"
then if they carry on
the Fire will be
a place for them to stay
and if they ask
to make amends
they will not be
allowed to do so
We have given them friends
who have made
what is before them
and what is behind them
seem fair to them
so against them
the Word has come true
as it did against
communities
of humans and jinn
that passed away
before them
surely they were losers
those who are
ungrateful
say
"Do not listen to this Reading
talk over the top of it
hopefully you will get
the upper hand"
so We shall let
those who are
ungrateful
taste a terrible punishment
and We shall reward them
with the worst of
what they did
that is the reward
for God's enemies
the Fire
in which they shall have
an eternal home
as a reward for
rejecting Our Signs
and those who are
ungrateful
will say
"Our Liege
show us those
who led us in
the wrong way
both jinn and humans
and we shall put them
under our feet
so they may be among
the lowest of the low"
those who have said
"Our Liege is God"
and have then gone straight
the Angels
come down to them
saying
"Do not be afraid or sad
be happy in the Garden
which you were promised
we are your friends
in the present life
and in the world to come
in which you will have
all that your souls desire
all that you ask for
a welcome from Hu
Most-Forgiving
Ever-Merciful"
who could say
anything more beautiful
than one who calls out to God
and does good deeds
and says
"Surely I am of those
who surrender"?
the good deed
and the evil deed
are not equal
drive away the bad
with something better
and if you and another
are enemies
it will be as if
they have become
your loyal friend
but no-one will receive it
except those who are patient
no-one will receive it
except those who have
good fortune
if Satan provokes you
look for safety with God
Hu is
the All-Hearing
the All-Knowing
and of Hu's Signs are
the night and the day
the sun and the moon
do not make Sajda
to the sun and moon
but make Sajda to God
the Creator of them
if you serve Hu
and they grow proud
but those who are
with your Liege
glorify Hu
by night and day
and do not tire
and of Hu's Signs
is that you see the earth
stripped bare
then when We send down
water on it
it stirs and swells
surely Hu gives it life
as Hu gives life to the dead
surely Hu is powerful
over everything
those who swear
against Our Signs
are not hidden from Us
which is better
those who will be
thrown into the Fire
or those who come in safety
on the Day of Rising?
do whatever you want
surely Hu sees
the things you do
those who do not
believe in the Reminder
when it comes to them
and surely it is
a Mighty Book
what is false cannot reach it
from before it or behind it
it is a sending down
from Hu
Wise
Most-Praiseworthy
nothing is said to you
that was not said to
the Messengers before you
surely your Liege is
a Liege of Forgiving
and of painful punishment
if We had made it a Reading
in different language
they would have said
"Why have its signs
not been made clear?
is it like
a foreign kind of Arabic?"
say
"To those who believe
it is a guide
and a healing
but to those who
do not believe
their ears are filled
with heaviness
to them it is a blindness
they are called
from a far place"
and We gave Moses
the Book
and there was
argument about it
and if it was not for
a Word from your Liege
that came before
they would already
have been judged
but they are in doubt
suspicious
whoever does
what is right
it is to their own gain
and whoever does
what is wrong
it is to their own loss
your Liege
does not do wrong
to Hu's servants
knowledge of the Hour
belongs only to Hu
no fruit comes out of its sheath
no-one becomes pregnant
or gives birth
without Hu knowing
on the day
when Hu shall call to them
"Where are they now
My partner-gods?"
they shall say
"We admit to You
we do not see them"
what they called to before
will be lost to them
and they will know that
they have no escape
humans never tire of
praying for good
but when evil visits
then they despair
and lose all hope
and if We let them
taste mercy from Us
after hard times
have visited them
they surely say
"This is mine
I do not think
the Hour is coming
but if I am
returned to my Liege
with Hu I will certainly
get the best of rewards"
then We shall tell
those who are
ungrateful
the things that
they have done
and certainly
We shall let them taste
a harsh punishment
and when We bless humans
they turn away
and draw aside
but when evil visits them
they are full of
endless prayers
say
"What do you think?
if it is from God
and you reject it
who could be
further astray
than those who
separate themselves
far away from it?"
We shall show them
Our Signs
in the horizons
and in themselves
until it is clear to them
that it is the truth
is it not enough
that your Liege is
witness over everything?
are they in doubt about
the meeting to come
with their Liege?
does Hu not
embrace everything?
