By the Name
God
the Fount-of-All-Mercy
the Ever-Merciful
those who are
ungrateful
and bar others
from God's Way
God will send
their works astray
but those who believe
and do good deeds
and believe in what is
sent down to Muhammad
and it is the truth
from their Liege
Hu will wipe away
their bad deeds
and set their minds right
that is because
those who are
ungrateful
follow what is not true
and those who believe
follow the truth
from their Liege
in this way
God gives examples
for humankind
when you meet in battle
with those who are
ungrateful
strike their necks
and when they are defeated
tie them up tightly
then set them free
by grace or ransom
when the war is ended
so it shall be
and if God willed
Hu would have taken
revenge upon them
except that Hu
may test some of you
by means of others
and those who are killed
in the Way of God
Hu will not let
their actions go astray
Hu will guide them
and set their minds right
and Hu will let them
enter the Garden
that Hu has
made known to them
you who believe
if you help God
Hu will help you
and make your feet
stand firm
but as for those who are
ungrateful
they will be ruined
Hu will make
their actions go astray
that is because they hate
what God has sent down
so Hu has made
their actions
come to nothing
have they not travelled
about the earth
and seen what was
the end of those
who came before them?
God destroyed them
and those who are
ungrateful
will suffer the same fate
that is because
God is the Protector
of those who believe
and those who are
ungrateful
have no protector
God will surely let
those who believe
and do good deeds
enter gardens
beneath which rivers flow
but as for those who are
ungrateful
they take their enjoyment
and eat as cattle eat
and the Fire
will be their home
how many cities
We have destroyed
that were
greater and stronger
than your city
which drove you out
and there was
no helper for them
are those who follow
a clear proof from their Liege
like those whose evil deeds
have been made
to seem fair
and they have followed
their urges?
this is the likeness
of the Garden
which has been promised
to those who are
Mindful of God
in it are rivers of water
that does not stale
and rivers of milk
that does not
change its flavour
and rivers of wine
a delight
to those who drink it
and rivers of honey
clear and pure
and in it for them
is every kind of fruit
and forgiveness
from their Liege
are they the same
as those who live
forever in the Fire
that are given
boiling water to drink
that tears apart
their insides?
and some of them
listen to you
but when they go
away from you
they say to those
who have been given
knowledge
"What did he say just now?"
those are the ones
upon whose hearts
God has set a seal
and they follow
their own urges
but those who
are guided right
Hu increases their guiding
and makes them
Mindful of God
what are they waiting for
if not the Hour
that will come upon them
suddenly
its signs have already come
so when it does arrive
what good will
their Reminder
be to them then?
so know that
there is no god but God
and ask for forgiveness
for the wrong you have done
and for those who believe
both men and women
God knows
when you go to and fro
and when you stay still
those who believe say
"If only a Sura
could be sent down"
then when a clear Sura
is sent down
and fighting
is mentioned in it
you see those with
sickness in their hearts
looking at you
like someone
who would faint
from fear of death
better for them would be
to obey
and speak honourable words
then when
the matter is decided
it would be better for them
if they were true to God
if you turned away
would you then perhaps
spread sickness in the land
and break your family ties?
those are the ones
whom God has cursed
making them deaf
and blinding their eyes
do they not think about
the Reading?
or are there locks
on their hearts?
those who have
turned back in their tracks
after the guiding
has been
made plain to them
it was Satan
that tempted them
and gave them false hope
that is because
they said to those
who hate
what God sent down
"We will obey you
in some matters"
and God knows
what they keep secret
how will it be
when the Angels take them
beating their faces
and their backs?
that is because
they have followed
what angers God
and hated
what is pleasing to Hu
so Hu has made
their actions
come to nothing
or did those
with sickness in their hearts
think that God
would not expose
their bad intentions?
if We willed
We would show them to you
then you would know them
by their mark
and you will know them by
their twisted speech
and God knows what you do
and We shall surely test you
until We know
those of you
who struggle
and are patient
and have tested
what you say
those who are
ungrateful
and bar from God's Way
and cut themselves off
from the Messenger
after the guiding
has become clear to them
will not hurt God at all
and Hu will make
what they do
come to nothing
you who believe
obey God
and obey the Messenger
and do not make
what you do
have no worth
those who are ungrateful
and bar from God's Way
and then die ungrateful
God will not forgive them
so do not be faint hearted
and call for peace
you have the upper hand
and God is with you
and will not cheat you
for what you have done
this present life
is no more than a game
and an amusement
and if you believe
and are
Mindful of God
Hu will pay you your wage
and not ask for your wealth
if Hu did ask you for it
and put you under pressure
you would be mean
and Hu would expose
your bad intentions
so there you are
you are called upon
to spend in God's Way
and some of you are mean
and those who are mean
are only mean
to their own souls
God is
Rich-beyond-Need
you are the ones who need
if you turn away
Hu will replace you
with another people
instead of you
and they will not be like you
